People's perceptions of hosting au pairs

He's not "involved" with AP but does know how I cobble together a schedule.

I’m a woman with approximately 10 direct reports who are men and all of them that are fathers have discussed their childcare arrangements with me.

LOL, I manage 15 people and the only ones that run around moaning about their childcare issues are women. Not a single man lets this enter in conversation, nor lets it get in the way.

I wouldn't say "Hey Jim, you told me you have an Aupair watching your kids, since you have that AUPair, I'd like you to join us for a partner dinner Tuesday night. Cindy says she cannot make it because she takes her kids to Kindercare". Weird.

Honestly, I think they are too cheap to hire a professional nanny. But I also see the benefit is some situations.

With this reply, I agree that ppl are cheap and want care they can abuse for their own benefit.

We host male APs (we have boys) and most people are impressed how good they are with the boys; and their involvement in sports (soccer and basketball) is appreciated by the coaches and parents.
Our aps really are that big brother that most families with boys seem to want. We have gotten lucky with our males - and way more families ask for them to babysit than our females.

With this reply, I agree that ppl are cheap and want care they can abuse for their own benefit.

I don't think it's abusive for an AP who understands they don't get off at a given time upon matching (but works far less than 45 hours/week). But a grown adult trying to live her life just can't be flexible like that, nor should she had to be. AP program fills that gap.
