So today is my first day. Not feeling great. Can someone chime in that’s following a keto diet? I need encouragement. |
What have you eaten today? Seems early to get the carb flu. The keto experts would say “eat more fat!” Like a tbsp of coconut oil. |
When I started keto, I used a teaspoon of MCT oil with some coconut milk in my coffee and blended it to make a kind of latte. It really helped with the transition. I also needed to increase salt in the first week because I got lightheaded. Both of those things helped and I didn't have other side effects except keto breath for a couple of weeks about a month in. I've been following keto for about 18 months. It's been the best thing I have ever done for my health. I've lost almost 70 lb and now maintaining that loss easily. Have lots of energy and mental clarity. I know the diet doesn't work for everyone, but hope you can get past the first days to see if it works well for you. |
I fasted until about noon and then had lunch and dinner. The fasting may have been overboard. I definitely ate enough. |
Thanks for your feedback. Did you fast at all in the beginning? I just had a cup of bone broth, and a tea with coconut oil to help and it has made me feel a little better. |
After approximately 2 weeks it gets easier. Hang in there.
I do a 42/8 fast with keto. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and target foods to ensure you’re getting the recommended RDAs. Also, look into potassium & magnesium supplements, GNC sales a combo (250 mg) that is easy on your stomach. It will help with headaches, neuro/nerve function, and muscle fatigue. It works! Good luck! |
Is there a way to ease into Keto so it's not so bad? |
For me, I felt great on day 3. It on day 2, by the time I got home from work I had a headache to beat all headaches. I went to bed and my kids had to fend for themselves for dinner. What helped for me was eating egg whites on day one and two when I felt off. |
Start reducing your carbs gradually until you hit about 25 carbs per day, and then dive in and try to limit your carbs to 20 per day. So maybe only have carbs with your breakfast and dinner for a couple of days, no carbs with lunch and cut out all sweets. Then after a couple of days, eliminate breakfast carbs, etc until you are down to 20 carbs or less. |
Why?? A diet that precludes vegetables and fruit is terrible. So many people are doing this fad diet and it is not sustainable. Eventually your weight will plateau or creep back up and you'll have to restrict even more, like dairy. |
Seriously. Keto is fine if you want to crash diet and lose 5lbs to fit into your dress for that big party in 2 weeks. It's NOT a sustainble way to eat, or to lose a lot of weight (and keep it off), nor is eating meat/dairy/eggs multiple times a day healthy. Any "diet" that limits fruits, vegetables, and beans, is idiotic. |
During 16/8 intermittent fasting and while skipping breakfast, can you drink coffee? Like plain black coffee. |
There's nothing magical about beans. They're incredibly high carb (and yes, that's even counting net carbs after subtracting out the fiber). Most fruit as well is very high carb for the nutrients you get. Berries are a good bang for the buck, since they're high in antioxidants and have decent fiber/low sugar, but there's nothing all that healthy about melons, pineapple, and other high-sugar fruits except maybe as compared to a candy bar.
Plenty of people on keto eat plenty of veggies -- just low-carb, high-nutrient density varieties rather than potatoes and sweet potatoes. It is in fact a sustainable way to lose weight and keep it off -- and there's also nothing wrong with eating meat, full-fat dairy if you can tolerate it, and eggs multiple times a day, preferably pastured. |
A registered dietitian or a medical professional with serious nutrition training suggested that you do this,, right? Just checking |
Please. Everyone knows that ultimately, people gain weight because they eat too much, not because of carbs. And while keto is one way of suppressing appetite leading to eating less it's not the only or best way. |
