Keto

I also needed to increase salt in the first week because I got lightheaded. Both of those things helped and I didn't have other side effects except keto breath for a couple of weeks about a month in. I've been following keto for about 18 months. It's been the best thing I have ever done for my health. I've lost almost 70 lb and now maintaining that loss easily. Have lots of energy and mental clarity. I know the diet doesn't work for everyone, but hope you can get past the first days to see if it works well for you.

Any diet that makes you feel lightheaded because of lack of a food can't be good.

Most diets lead to eating less food. You actually don’t have to starve yourself on keto. It’s a misconception.

Most fruit as well is very high carb for the nutrients you get. Berries are a good bang for the buck, since they're high in antioxidants and have decent fiber/low sugar, but there's nothing all that healthy about melons, pineapple, and other high-sugar fruits except maybe as compared to a candy bar.

Plenty of people on keto eat plenty of veggies -- just low-carb, high-nutrient density varieties rather than potatoes and sweet potatoes.

It is in fact a sustainable way to lose weight and keep it off -- and there's also nothing wrong with eating meat, full-fat dairy if you can tolerate it, and eggs multiple times a day, preferably pastured.

thank you. people seem ridiculously confused about keto.

Please. Everyone knows that ultimately, people gain weight because they eat too much, not because of carbs. And while keto is one way of suppressing appetite leading to eating less it's not the only or best way.

np. no one said it was the only or best way. it's a way that works for some people, other ways of eating work for others.

So what? Seriously, so what? There's nothing wrong with carbs. Nothing at all, not one iota. It's not a cupcake - we're talking sweet potatoes and lentils.

And people wonder with Americans are blowing up - it has nothing to do with "carbs," and everything to do with pp's disordered concern. The longest living, and healthiest populations on earth eat mostly carbs - high in plants, low in animal products.

Actually fruit isn't as good for you as you think. Most that is available to us has been genetically altered to have more sugar and be sweeter so we will eat more.

np. again, no one said anything is wrong with carbs. manipulating carbs is one way for people to lose fat quickly.

Sure, if you eat more calories than your body needs. That can happen with any diet or anytime for that matter. Anytime a person eats more calories than they need, they gain weight. A person could even gain weight eating keto if they overeat more calories than they need. Same with any other diet.

Op here, well this thread took an odd turn. Thanks to those that provided the encouragement I asked for. Day 2 and I’m feeling pretty good.

OP, next time you start a thread like this, let posters know in the OP that you don't want to be ridiculed or "talked out" of your diet, and then report them to Jeff to have their posts removed if they aren't being at all helpful.

This is the DIET and EXERCISE forum, it is perfectly fine to want to discuss a specific type of DIET and get support without having to deal with the "eat less, move more" crowd chiming in and undermining the intent of the thread. Start your own thread about beans if you love them so much.

Op here, thanks for the advice!

I do very well on keto - it takes a few days to get into the swing of it, though. Did you buy keto testing strips? Once they go pink or purple it is very motivating and helps with the whole way of eating.

Join some Keto groups on FB as well.

I start my day with 2 eggs, sour cream, and avocado. Snack on almonds and pork rinds at work, sometimes cheese with turkey inside like a pita. At home I eat turkey bacon, grilled shrimp, cheese, lots of veggies, salmon, chicken, tuna.

I also really like to have various nuts, low carb yogurt (8 or 10 carbs), cream cheese, sour cream, Parmesan chips, and lunch meat in the fridge.

Once you lose all the water weight and start seeing results you'll be fine!

You eat tons of fat on keto... which is excellent for you if done right. I have been on keto since September - I've lost all the weight I set out to lose and then some.. and kept it off. I drink buttered coffee in the am... It keeps me full until I cook up some eggs.

There is so much research out there on how bad low fat high carb diets are for you. Google it.
