Posting in this group for tips that have worked for you. Im trying to lose 10 lbs (not particularly overweight but its crept on over the last year) and all my normal weight loss techniques dont seem to be working. Im moderately active (gym couple of times a week), cut out processed carbs and ive lost about 2 lbs if that over the last 10 days.
I presume this is because Im a older and its tougher. Im not in menopause as yet although no doubt hormones are an issue. Any tips? ![]() |
2 lbs in 10 days is a good rate, OP. Did you think you'd lose 10 lbs immediately? |
OP here - sorry that should have been 1 lb - if that. ![]() |
Keep on hitting the gym.
Walk more. Only drink water. Veggies +++. Eat less as the day goes by. |
OP, it sucks. I just turned 48. I'm also very active- an hour cardio at the gym in the morning, and then during my lunch hour I either do weights or go to yoga. I've noticed that I just can't eat like I did in my 20s. I don't have the same appetite, but I kind of miss it. My guess is that it is all about eating less, and especially a very light dinner. I used to think it was so weird when my parents told me they were having steamed broccoli for dinner- now I get it. |
OP, I hate to say it, but one pound is within margin of error for your body weight. I can lose a pound of water in 20 minutes of exercising.
My suggestion? Make rules you strive to live by: - No eating past 8pm on weeknights, for any reason. - Alcohol no more than 3 times a week. - Always take at least a third of a restaurant meal home with you. I'm just being illustrative, but those have worked for me. If you can up the intensity of your gym workouts, that is a massive plus. That said, you can eat through pretty much any normal workout with bad dietary habits. |
Beyond steady exercise, the biggest factor for me is eating less in the evening - to really lose weight, I have to go to bed hungry. Its really hard with life's stresses and takes a ton of discipline.
I am struggling with it right now. I have been really good about exercise this year after using work/life responsibilities as an excuse not to go to the gym. I am down about 10 lbs, but have another 15 to go. I have been going to the gym on average 6 times per week and I have hit a plateau. To drop more weight, I know its all about diet and I just need to buck up. Much easier said than done - good luck! |
What works for me is sticking to meats, veges, fruits, eggs, and things like avocados and nuts. These foods keep you full and you don’t really feel like overeating them. |
Use MyFitnessPal to track every single thing that enters your mouth. You will be shocked at how many calories you actually eat.
Get a SmartScale and sync it to MyFitnessPal so you can accurately track your weight (step on it daily at same time of day). |
Stop eating at 6 pm, get your heart rate up in the gym (at least 165). Don't even think about alcohol. Every time I cut out most salt and sugar water weight evaporates. |
165? Every time my Fitbit reports over 150, young people have been asking if I need 911. |
Look into ketogenic foods and IF (intermittent fasting). It can be as simple as a 16/8 hour fasting regimen to a more extended duration. Also, doesn’t throw your metabolic rate if performed properly, better than caloric restricted diets.
It’s quite simple once you get into the routine, no tedious, time consuming diet plans. Also, good for detox and overall health, especially if you’re pre diabetic or have elevated cholesterol levels. There are much more benefits, but too much to provide in a brief forum reply. Google is your friend on this one, a lot of FREE information available. Mainly you stay away from processed, starchy, sugary, high carb foods. For the extreme, YouTube Dr Jason Fung |
Yes. HIIT training. I have helped people in your similar situation shed pounds in 2 months. If this looks like you, message me. |
Despite what I have read, I only lose weight and know I’m losing when I’m hungary. It’s hard work, still working on it and lots of cardio excercize, no night eating and water are key as others have said. |
More gym time and varied training (like hiit) it's hard to fit it in... But whatever you are doing, double it. And eat healthfully. |
