Some fruits have the same nutrients as veggies. My DS hates carrots, but will eat papaya, which has tons of betacarotene, and sweet potatoes. Maybe a variety of fruits? Kiwi, papaya, mangoes, etc. I also agree with PP that you need to be consistent with the veggies. It takes a while for htem to like them. I always offer a veggie with the meal. Even though I end up throwing a lot away, we've found some that he will eat after being offered a few times.
Yup, I got the big rejection letter yesterday. So does anyone ever actually get off the waiting list or is that just a way to string us along a little bit longer?
It sounds and looks kind of weird, but using a Neti pot for nasal irrigation really helped the congestion. I do it every day in the spring since I don't want to use allergy medication. Isn't uncomfortable and works like a champ. Good luck!
I haven't been impressed with the moms I've met from Georgetown (OK, full disclosure I've only hung out with 3). They do seem really snobby and have this holier than thou attitude about living in the city (trashing people in CC as unfriendly and hicky until I told them that I live there). That said, I'm not going to trash the entire neighborhood because I talked to three insecure jerks. I would think the logistical downside would be enough. I worked in G'town for a few years and the traffic is a nightmare and the houses that are anywhere near the university suffer from the effects of the student population: noisy weekends and sometimes vomit on your front stoop. If you're looking for close-in city 'hoods (which this mom is not) I'd much rather look at Woodley or Cleveland Park.
AU park is overflowing with families and kids. We have a regular dinner with neighbors (take out for all) every Friday night. We see lots of block parties in the summer. The two parks, Turtle Park and the smaller Ft. Bayard Park are always full of kids and Turtle Park has a great May Fair and Halloween parties for the neighbors. I see my neighbor's kids running around in nicer weather and it makes me feel nice that there's a place where parents still let their kids play outside on a regular basis.
Comet Ping Pong next to Politics and Prose. The pizza is as good as Paradisio or 2Amys (it better be since that's the only thing on the menu besides salad and dessert) and the funky decor goes well with messy kids. Added bonus is they have parking in the back.
I threw up every brand I tried and then finally got gummy vitamins. They were the only ones that stayed down. Also, my doc said that if you can't tolerate any vitamins, just folic acid is ok.
We usually have a snack between 10-11 and then he has lunch between 1:30-2:30, depending on when he wakes up. He's never been a huge dinner eater, and has that on the late side, between 7-7:30 before going to bed at 8.
Varies but it wouldn't be out of the question if your baby was on his way down to one nap now. Have you tried keeping him up until 10 or 11 to see if he sleeps longer? My DS went down to 1 nap at around 14 months. He goes down at 11 and doesn't wake up until 1 or 2.
I second Tanzania for the best natural experience. We disaggregated the trip that Abercrombie and Kent would have put together and dealt with some lodges directly and saved some money. CC Africa runs a fabulous lodge at the Ngorongoro Crater although we loved their lodge in the Serengeti even better (and that one has a pool). We felt that the trip was very safe (although a whole week of safaris got a little boring) and the service was impeccable. I haven't been, but everyone raves about Zanzibar and lots of people go to their beaches after going on safari. South Africa would probably be my best bet for the most western and amenity-filled vacation. Just note that both Tanzania and S. Africa are really LONG flights despite the fact that the time zones are the same as Europe. We flew 6 hours to Frankfort and had another 10 hour trip down to Tanzania. have fun, it was amazing.
We're looking in Chevy Chase, close-in Bethesda and Arlington. The market still seems pretty hot in these areas (some multiple offers, houses don't seem to stay on the market more than a couple of months if priced right). However, interest rates are going up and we have noticed a drop in price in these neighborhoods. We're also looking to sell our house in Friendship Heights DC. Hoping to price right this spring and sell it quickly. What do folks think the real estate market is going to go this spring/summer?
We didn't do our basement, but the people before us used Case and probably spent a fortune. However, we have a totally rockin' basement. They did a brilliant job laying out the space to maximize it so we got 2 more BR, a family room, a work room, and a small mud room out of our basement. They did beautiful built-in cabinets and really good recessed lighting. OUr next door neighbors (who live in the same model house) went with Home Depot and it was a disaster. They ended up with Case and it turned out great. Downside is the $$$$. They are super expensive. You're definitely paying for quality and reliability.
