No answer for you, but my 11.5 month old daughter is doing the same. She is sleeping less at night (she was never a good sleeper) and has been waking up at 3:30am for the last week. It is much harder to get her to take her 2 naps a day, and by the time we get her to sleep, she'll stay asleep for 20 minutes. She has gone from 10-11 hours a night to 9 hours a night with 1 wake-up, and from two 45 minute to 1.5 hour naps a day, to 1 or 2 naps that last about 30 minutes. I am not ready for this!
Did some research and saw that it isn't unusual for some babies to want to cut out one of their day naps around 1 year. Curious to hear from other moms.

Varies but it wouldn't be out of the question if your baby was on his way down to one nap now. Have you tried keeping him up until 10 or 11 to see if he sleeps longer? My DS went down to 1 nap at around 14 months. He goes down at 11 and doesn't wake up until 1 or 2.

To the PP, just wondering, if your baby sleeps from 11-1 or 2, do you give him lunch before or after?

If a baby was slow to move from 3 to 2 naps, will he also be slow to move from 2 to 1? Or do some move very rapidly through the stages of sleep consolidation during the day once they finally "figure it out"? Ours was doing 3-4 short naps til almost 10 months, and now does 2 naps of 45-90 minutes but has developed some crazy nightime patterns (recently wide awake at 2 am for over an hour each night). He's almost a year old.

We usually have a snack between 10-11 and then he has lunch between 1:30-2:30, depending on when he wakes up. He's never been a huge dinner eater, and has that on the late side, between 7-7:30 before going to bed at 8.

Depends on the kid...

mine took 2 naps until he was 17 mos, and ONLY then did he have to give one up b/c he started Daycare for the 1st time and they would not allow 2 naps at his age If he stayed home with me for longer I'm not sure how long he would have carried on like this.

My DS sleeps A LOT. Now at 2 he takes a 2.5hr nap per day and goes to bed at 6:45pm and wakes at 6:30am-STTN. Its nuts.

My DHs grandma claims that DH took a nap a day until he was 5.
