I have only done it a few times but enjoyed it when I did it. Granted I was in Jamaica when I did so that may have helped but it was a great experience.

If ever your in JA check out Bikram Yoga Jamaica... .

As others have said, BRING WATER....LOTS OF IT. It will work muscles you did not know you had.

What they said....your putting way more stress into this than you should. Take your time, do it at your pace. Get across the finish line and just enjoy it. If you have not done so go by your local running store (preferable not a Dicks or Sports Authority.....Pacers or other running store) and get fitted for some good running shoes. Don't make the mistake that most do and figure the Nikes, Puma, Adidas, Reebok, etc you have are fine.

Best money you will spend is on a good pair of running shoes that are fit to your stride. Will make it a more pleasant experience and help prevent or at least minimize chances of injury.

Forgot to register (busy with new baby and life and stuff.....).

Good luck to all the runners.

2 miles 5 times a week......to me at least.

I have found it much easier to find the time to crank out short runs than fitting long runs into my week.

Of course this also depends on your pace but I tend to eat lunch at my desk while I am working so as long as I have somewhere to change/shower I can fit a quick 2 or 3 miles in for my lunch break.

On those rare days things are slow I can then crank out a quick 4 or 5 and make up the extra time taken.

Seems like the basics have been covered pretty well by the other posters.

As has been stated.....no need to be intimidated or think you will be 'that' person in the running group. Most running groups I have tried are very mellow and try to keep things chill for all involved so there is little to no pressure to run at a specific pace. Let them know what distance your good at and they usually adjust things to fit. If there are people going longer they will split the group for those going long versus short.

For me treadmill running is okay but it does get boring. Full disclosure though I take a sick sense of accomplishment from running in the rain, snow, heat...... so theres that. One benefit for me on the treadmill thought was it helped me up my speed. I thin it has to do with the treadmill being one continuous speed. When I was training for a half mixing in some treadmill work dropped my average times from 9:35 to about 8:10. Right now I am back to about a 9:20 but that is a mix of pavement and trails so take that with a grain of salt.

End of the day.....take your time, ease into running outdoors.

Someone mentioned apps. I have given most of them a try.....if your an app person......present app of choice is the Nike+ app. Love it!! MapMyRun is great. Will probably being giving the Puma app a whirl soon just to see if they worked out the bugs from version one.

Easy answer....yes. Without a doubt. That is one of the best things about coming into the office, seeing some of the stunning women I work with and fantasizing about them.
