Bikram Yoga

What's the deal? Is it a good work out? I'm thinking of trying it, either at Bikram Alexandria or Bikram Arlington. Pros / cons?

thanks.

i took a few classes at Bikram Arligton. It is a good workout in the sense that you are sweating in a hot room which makes it mentally and physically challenging. The first class is really difficult, but the second doesn't feel as hard in terms of dealing with the heat. I definitely think it is worth giving it a try. I didn't love it enough to continue, but have friends who swear by it.

Things i didn't like- lights are on so the room is bright with mirrors all around. i also wasn't a fan of the instructor. He seemed to bark out commands, call people out for thing in a not so encouraging way. I am cool with getting help, being touched and all the typical things done in a yoga class, but not cool with someone calling you out for bad from from the front of the class.

I tried it at a different studio and it wasn't for me. The heat made me feel sick and I had to leave, and the instructor called me out and tried to stop me. My advice is at your first class take it very slow and take breaks. I think I felt sick because I tried to do too much and the heat really intensifies it.

I do like more moderately heated yoga, like in the 80s-90s.

I go to bikram alexandria. The 1st time is tough. Then it gets a lot better. Make sure you bring 2water bottles worth of fluids. Instructors are helpful and will guide you in your first day.

I took classes for a while at a different studio in the area. I loved the heat and the meditative experience of it. I'd walk out of there feeling incredibly relaxed, and would sleep like a baby that night.

I stopped going because I found the instructor/owner to be pretty rude and intimidating. As others have said, it's really not fun to be called out, by name, for doing a pose incorrectly.

I have only done it a few times but enjoyed it when I did it. Granted I was in Jamaica when I did so that may have helped but it was a great experience.

If ever your in JA check out Bikram Yoga Jamaica... .

As others have said, BRING WATER....LOTS OF IT. It will work muscles you did not know you had.
