I expect to be one of the slow ones and worry that if the course isn't well marked that I'll end up wandering down the wrong street or something. Maybe I'll find out the course ahead of time and see if I can do a practice test.

I doubt you will get lost. The races usually have things marked out pretty well. Also, just follow the runners around you.......even if you walk the entire way you should be good to go with people following the same course.

Also, keep in mind, with a 5K course you will be able to see most of the course pretty easily.

Do it at your pace and enjoy.

easy and thoughtful......get about 20 nice photos and make a book out of them. Apple has an idiot simple service and templates you can use. If your not the most tech savvy person I believe you can make an appointment, take you pictures to the apple store and they can walk you through the process.

If your not an Apple person there are also a couple different book sites out there that do the same thing.

Upload you photos, place them in the template, pay to have it print and bound.

Done. Nice keepsake and you look thoughtful.

One mans opinion....give it a try. Find the right 'box' to try it out with. The one I signed up with pushed me but also stressed building up very gradually. Hell, they did not want us even getting near the olympic bar until we really showed that we were getting the form down properly.

As with any kind of training/gym environment there are good and bad out there. Try the free class or better yet, find a groupOn. When I did it I signed up for a month of unlimited classes for $99 dollars. The first three classes they don't even let you train with the regular class.......they had one of the instructors walk you through a scaled workout. After that you can join the regular class.

After a month I had a decent handle on the basics and now incorporate crossFit stuff into my workouts at home. Way cheaper to set up my own work out stuff than drop the $150 - $200 a month they want. Still, I got a great intro and feel confident in doing it on my own.

PS In terms of equipment.....

DIY Plyo box 20x24x30 - $34
DIY Climbing rope - $21
Jump Rope - $12
DIY Parelletes - $28
Biggest expense so far was the olympic bar and weights.

My DH is primary earner by a lot, but I also live in a low cost of living city so 75k goes a long way over here (that's why I opted for 80%, I value time more at this point).

I also forgot to add I get 1+ month paid vacation each year. Yeah, very cushy job with great supervisors who think if I do pne thing all week, I am a superstar. But coming from DC's go-getter work ethic, I feel so uninspired here.

Anyways -- my bigges grief is that I would much rather be teaching at a community college or working in student services -- very, very far removed from the law I am practicing.

This job's perks is making it difficult to take the leap and follow my dreams. So many people tell me that I will never find another gig like this one (ie-- sane, normal folks in the office, great hour, etc.).

Keep what you got and hone you skills in your down time. Also, since you want to teach do it........most Community Colleges are happy to take on adjuncts these days so you should look into that. Teaching may balance you out and fulfill you in a way the full time gig is not. Doing so will get you some extra cash, keep you happy, and allow you to keep the cushy gig with the great benefits.

Pretty much my take on it. Sucks for her but the point is that it is one standard that everyone has to work with. No adjustments made for male, female, weight, height, whatever. Plenty of guys have lost out on the jumping spider because they were short guys without enough wing span.

Sucks for her but great that they maintained the integrity of the challenges.

Good shoes will make a difference. Barefoot is good to but depending on the carpet and the exercise you may run into possible injuries due to lack of the right type of support.

I saw better results when I started doing more often shorter milage. When I was trying to lost weight longer miles worked wonders because I was burning stupid amounts of calories.

End result is now that I am close to the weight I want to be I have been able to taper back the miles and make sure I maintain frequency to help maintain healthy weight while also being able to recover better.

It is pretty good but as much as I tried I just could not get fully into it. I can't quite put my finger on what it was I did not like since I am a fan of Halle and loves me some Sci-Fi.

Sounds like they were startled and just reacted. A simple 'Left' or 'On Your Left' usually does it. If I don't feel like saying that I will make it a point to make some noise when I am coming up on people so they realize I am there.

I also do the same (make some kinda noise) when I am running and see a single woman running alone so she has plenty of warning. Just a courtesy thing.

Do it for you. If you have people saying you can't do it....ignore them. Is it intimidating? Absolutely. But you will feel wonderful when you have done it.

Vary your run. Try different places. When I was training for my Half Marathon something that made a huge difference was when I started trying the same mileage in different areas.

As has been suggested, some new gear sometimes makes a difference. Get a pair of the Brooks run happy calf sleeves. Something as simple as that can add a bit of joy and motivation to your run. Get a playlist from someone else if you run with tunes and try it out. Ya never know what weird stuff someone else might listen to that may motivate you.
