Discrimination against Asians

I have a feeling this is where most issues like affirmative action, diversifying the workplace, the idea of white privilege, etc. will end up, going forward in this country.

I think one reason this is getting so extreme is because they are cramming/rushing in this new proposal. Something more gradual with some more thought would have made things more civil. End result would have been the same, more URMs. Probably, COVID had something to do with it.

The time is now we must act before we can afford to pay the stupid diversity executive position

If they came out seeing a bit more straightforward saying COVID is a unique situation and we should try this out for a year or two, it would have been a lot better than this.

90 percent of what has been said on this tread, people would not / could not say in public. I hope this is not shared with the kids. Very decisive. Some may end up being your in-laws!

Not at all - in fact you've proved my point. Asians recognize that we have people among us who are racist, and call it out loudly and over and over again. We, especially the younger generation, recognize it and look to root it out, which is why you see so many of us raising our voices against it. We are outraged by it, we write about it and talk about it and work on effecting actual change. But where is your outrage when there is racism against Asians?

You won't find it. It's all smoke and mirrors about 'equality for all'. It's equality for the chosen ones.

Supporting Asians fighting discrimination....... crickets.

What exactly do you want people to support? I've never seen an Asian-led protest movement outside schools or PTA conferences or just before education decisions are released.

You want support? Get out there and tell us where to show up.

This one thread is 64 pages of shaming Asians for speaking up about the discrimination they face.

It's been post after post telling Asians they are wrong, selfish, culturally inferior, unsocialized, cheaters, racist, justification of stereotypes and bias, get in the back of the line, that we don't support black people, etc.etc....

You think the only way to show support is if Asians start mass protesting on the streets? Are you that small-minded?

We see you. The REAL you.

They call us white for their own gain but colored for our votes.

I am an involved Democrat. Spent lots of money and time on campaigns in swing states to get Trump out. I am disappointed by the manipulative behavior and racist comments that I see and hear from people who should know better. I do think though that we can still be true and stand up for ourselves. Get more involved with your school committees, boards, local politics. Find your voice and shut out the noise!

Now about 1000 posts and 20000 views. Incredible.

It’s tough to come into a diverse area, be in turn anti-Black, anti-Hispanic, and anti-white, and still expect others to hold you in high regard. There’s just a level of extreme self-centeredness and indifference to everyone else that you don’t find in most places.

Not sure how you can be surprised at discovering people who've made it through highly selective processes to be a little more confident of themselves than people who weren't selected, whether you personally perceive them as "extremely self-centered" or "indifferent to everyone else".

Would you say the same about a public high school's competitive basket ball team that happened to be 70-80% black?
What about a competitive lax or crew team that was consistently 80-90% white?
Or an accelerated/selective writer's workshop that is almost all white every year?

Bottom line- during the admission process for each of these is everyone held to the same standard or not?

People can't compete. So they just cancel the game - not just change the rules or help create a level playing field. It would have been an altogether different approach if it was 70% white.

Different approach in addressing not enough black students in magnet schools.

Spot on. They wouldn’t dare. There’s a reason they started with TJ - most of the other schools are majority white and there’s no attempt at all to change those. They haven’t done the same thing to AAP because that’s majority white.

Pretty sure almost everyone here would help injured on the road, irrespective of political party.

no, I could picture Trump not bothering, saying the person must be a loser and sucker. I was told to never scream "help" when someone tries to abduct me because people would not want to tangle themselves in the situation, and instead to yell "fire" because people would pay attention to that since they wouldn't want their property to be damaged.

That other pp with the stupid China post trying to make out all Asians as soulless monsters.

11 year old Indian American boy, Advaik Nandikotkur, jumps into pool to save a drowning 34 yr old man
https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/03/us/boy-saves-man-from-drowning-trnd/index.html

29 year old Indian man, Manjeet Singh, drowns trying to rescue 3 kids from a river
https://people.com/human-interest/man-dies-trying-to-save-3-children-from-california-river/

When Rahul Dubey opened his home to over 70 BLM protesters, he did so in the middle of a pandemic putting his life and the life of his 13 year old kid at risk, but he didn't hesitate. He saw people that needed help and helped. Period.

Then there's my Indian husband that was a first responder during 9/11. He saw the first plane attack and didn't even hesitate to jump in the ambulance to set up triage.

Racist people on here see Asians as if they are not even human, as if every other race except Asians are the most benevolent supreme humans on earth. Nevermind it was Western culture that invented the atom bomb and dropped it on Hiroshima.

Please don’t bring World War II into this. The U.S. was only responding to Japanese aggression at Pearl Harbor. And before we get into the parity of response - you don’t attack something much bigger than you and only expect a poke back.

You with your overweening racism, you read all of her post, were unable to respond to any of the points she made or the examples she raised, and then gratefully jumped up and down on her last line with your meaningless non-response. You’re supposed to be the Urm savior here?

I didn’t write that Asians were soulless monsters or whatever it was about China. I don’t think either of those things sound accurate btw.
