Discrimination against Asians

Pretty sure almost everyone here would help injured on the road, irrespective of political party.

no, I could picture Trump not bothering, saying the person must be a loser and sucker. I was told to never scream "help" when someone tries to abduct me because people would not want to tangle themselves in the situation, and instead to yell "fire" because people would pay attention to that since they wouldn't want their property to be damaged.

Not at all - in fact you've proved my point. Asians recognize that we have people among us who are racist, and call it out loudly and over and over again. We, especially the younger generation, recognize it and look to root it out, which is why you see so many of us raising our voices against it. We are outraged by it, we write about it and talk about it and work on effecting actual change. But where is your outrage when there is racism against Asians?

You won't find it. It's all smoke and mirrors about 'equality for all'. It's equality for the chosen ones.

Supporting Asians fighting discrimination....... crickets.

What exactly do you want people to support? I've never seen an Asian-led protest movement outside schools or PTA conferences or just before education decisions are released.

You want support? Get out there and tell us where to show up.

This one thread is 64 pages of shaming Asians for speaking up about the discrimination they face.

It's been post after post telling Asians they are wrong, selfish, culturally inferior, unsocialized, cheaters, racist, justification of stereotypes and bias, get in the back of the line, that we don't support black people, etc.etc....

You think the only way to show support is if Asians start mass protesting on the streets? Are you that small-minded?

We see you. The REAL you.

Mostly it’s 64 pages of Asians insisting on having the last word and claiming they are the true victims of discrimination, all in an effort to avoid long overdue efforts to diversify the student body at a magnet school so that more than a handful of Black, Hispanic, and low-income kids get a shot there. And then they go off and hold insipid “vigils” for TJ and start other threads about TJ is now “dead.”

If you want others to have your back, you’re going to have to do a lot better than that, because the behavior of many Asians when it comes to TJ just reinforces every prior racist experience that some of us have had at the hands of Asians for years.

Total mischaracterization. I imagine most people don’t mind increasing opportunities for URMs.

We don’t agree that the best method for doing so involves turning a majority minority school into a majority white school.

The fact the school board doesn’t see this as a problem is concerning and speaks to how nobody cares about Asians. If we don’t speak up for ourselves, who will?

Clearly you don’t get it. Whether it’s willful ignorance, a lack of empathy, or plain stupidity is open to debate. Either way, you’ve lost this debate. Go hold another vigil if you want, no one else cares about your weaponized Asian tears at this point.

There are other solutions besides a lottery that will increase the enrollment of URMs without robbing Asians the chance to earn their spot.

The myopic focus on a lottery shows a lack of creativity.

That other pp with the stupid China post trying to make out all Asians as soulless monsters.

11 year old Indian American boy, Advaik Nandikotkur, jumps into pool to save a drowning 34 yr old man
https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/03/us/boy-saves-man-from-drowning-trnd/index.html

29 year old Indian man, Manjeet Singh, drowns trying to rescue 3 kids from a river
https://people.com/human-interest/man-dies-trying-to-save-3-children-from-california-river/

When Rahul Dubey opened his home to over 70 BLM protesters, he did so in the middle of a pandemic putting his life and the life of his 13 year old kid at risk, but he didn't hesitate. He saw people that needed help and helped. Period.

Then there's my Indian husband that was a first responder during 9/11. He saw the first plane attack and didn't even hesitate to jump in the ambulance to set up triage.

Racist people on here see Asians as if they are not even human, as if every other race except Asians are the most benevolent supreme humans on earth. Nevermind it was Western culture that invented the atom bomb and dropped it on Hiroshima.

It’s tough to come into a diverse area, be in turn anti-Black, anti-Hispanic, and anti-white, and still expect others to hold you in high regard. There’s just a level of extreme self-centeredness and indifference to everyone else that you don’t find in most places.

Not sure how you can be surprised at discovering people who've made it through highly selective processes to be a little more confident of themselves than people who weren't selected, whether you personally perceive them as "extremely self-centered" or "indifferent to everyone else".

Would you say the same about a public high school's competitive basket ball team that happened to be 70-80% black?
What about a competitive lax or crew team that was consistently 80-90% white?
Or an accelerated/selective writer's workshop that is almost all white every year?

Bottom line- during the admission process for each of these is everyone held to the same standard or not?

These poor kids with their crazy parents living vicariously through them and looking at a TJ admission as their main validation in life and the basis to constantly declare their superiority over everyone else. We see you, we dislike what you have done to our schools, and we will work to shut TJ down altogether if that’s what is necessary to counter your racism.

When you accuse us, you hold a mirror up to your racism and your deepest insecurities. Who hurt you? Don’t pretend to care for our kids - you don’t. Your crocodile tears mask your hate, which is so virulent you would rather tear everything down than build anything up.

Call it affirmative action, whatever, but this is required.
That way, Whites don't benefit. This is important. They cannot benefit from this.
We can agree that they, the Whites, are privileged. They don't need handouts, and should be excluded.
As Asian Americans, we should all support this.
The 10% quota would mean that people who barely made it to TJ today would have a hard time getting in.
I have a suspicion what ethnicity the marginals are.

That will be the most effective and least disruptive measure to increase URM enrollment at TJ. The TJ community basically proposed this kind of approach. Why does the SB and Brabrand refuse to consider this? It makes you wonder what the lottery is truly for. It's not for URM.

Change to that school is long overdue. Thank you Scott Brabrand and Ann Bonitatibus for taking on the toxic TJ culture at last!

Obviously local Asians at TJ are a source of racism, not the victims. Ask parents about how some of those kids and families behave before they even get to TJ.

This thread, to sum up, is like perceived racists (in this case White or Asian) accusing the other (Asian or White) of being racists.
I have a feeling this is where most issues like affirmative action, diversifying the workplace, the idea of white privilege, etc. will end up, going forward in this country.

I am Asian and it's like the community is dumb to politics, they keep voting for those that cut is asians down. I would bet if we asians supported trump he would go to bat for us but we keep supporting the woke liberals who use us for votes but push us to the side and prop up the other minorities over us. They call us white for their own gain but colored for our votes.

I think one reason this is getting so extreme is because they are cramming/rushing in this new proposal. Something more gradual with some more thought would have made things more civil. End result would have been the same, more URMs. Probably, COVID had something to do with it.
