I think it would be tough even with monitored cameras. Someone would need to be looking at that particular camera (out of 105), during the 1-2 seconds she was pulled into the bathroom.

I heard this bathroom was the only set of bathrooms in the building that had doors. The other bathrooms are more open (think like at an airport.. you walk left then right, but no doors involved) and easier to hear what's going on inside. The bathroom was also in a secluded part of the school, near the aux gym.

MCPS security failed -- a routine audit would show this is a trouble point for all kinds of crimes.

The age of consent with no caveats regarding the other person's age is 16. Minors aged 14 and 15 can consent as long as the other person is not 4 or more years older than their age.

My interpretation of this law differs slightly from PP's as it appears to me that the other person must be at most three years older than the 14 or 15 year old who consented in order for the other person not to be guilty of a criminal act, albeit not statutory rape. It looks like if a 14 year old had consented to the act an 18 year old would still be guilty of a 4th degree sexual offense. They only had this forum because the national media picked up on it. The rape occurred 3/16. Nothing but a letter home to parents until now. Mcps ignored repeated requests by media. Heads at Mcps are sneaky.

Still nothing on MSNBC and nothing on CNN until tonight. Maybe they thought it would go away.

FCPS can't prevent someone from coming to a high school if they are under 18. There are tons of newcomer ESOL students who are 17. FCPS has a 4 year path to graduation. The first year the 17 soon to be 18 year old will not be in classes with non ESOL students. Same thing with their 2nd year. However their junior year they will take team taught Algebra, Biology and World History 1, which are all freshman classes. At this time the student will be turning 20 years old. If the student failed a year they are 21.

Since the classes are team taught half the kids are ESOL and the other half are general Ed (freshman). Almost every class has a 20 year old male who is a short distance or sitting next to a 14 year old girl. In some cases it's a 21 year old man next to 14 years. Most th kids are great but we definitely have gang members in these classes recruiting freshman. Nothing we can do about it though.

If you don't want your 13/14 year old children in classes with 20-21 year old men make sure they sign up for honors classes.

I just registered my son for kindergarten in Arlington at our school. I had to bring the physical birth certificate, my mortgage statement plus tax bill, medical and vaccine records and even TB test results! Yet if I didn't speak English and registered through the central office, I guess I could just sign him up no questions asked.

Oh- Questions would be asked, and an interpreter provided at no cost to you by APS.
You can't show what you don't have (birth certificates, immunization records, etc. ), and they can't refuse you, so you just write what you want, and sign, and that's it.

One WMAL caller just said parents (or the community?) need to volunteer to watch the security cameras in real time, because no one is doing that in the schools. Catch crimes in real time, instead of after the fact.
