Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Yes, they took questions from parents. The two lines to ask questions were long and most people who wanted to ask questions did not get to because they only allowed the last 15 mins or so for questions and then shut the whole thing down. They had staff pass out index cards for people to write down questions and the principal said they would post responses in a few days. Noticed police blocking access to and escort some officials out. Principal stayed available to people who approached her. I agree heads better roll on this one. |
No, they will serve their prison time here first. And no, it's not the same as if they'd simply chosen somewhere else in our country to live. Because they would have raped there, instead, which still would make it our political problem. |
A detective from the SVU and the commander of the first district were there. They have limited information. Both students are being held without bond charged with first degree rape and some secondary sexual assault charges. Assured everyone that they would not be out judge upheld the bond status. The said that they responded immediately, collected evidence, arrested suspects, and feel they have a strong case. |
Jack Smith. |
From reading the police report, there is no way this was consensual. That said, a 14 year old can consent in Maryland _if_ there is no more than 4 year age difference. So it wouldn't be statutory rape in this case _if_ the victim consented... but this is straight out rape anyway, and that's what the perpetrators have been charged with. It carries a maximum life sentence in Maryland. |
Yeah I think MCPD did a good job handling the case. The suspects were in custody within hours of the attack; they processed the crime scene; and the issued a press release the following day (on Friday). It's MCPS, the County Council, Board of Ed, and County Exec who really messed this up. They waited until now to really address the questions, once it really started hitting the news. They definitely knew on Friday since that's when MCPD issued the press release. My guess is at least the Superintendent, MCPS, and BoE knew already on Thursday. With this serious of a crime, they would definitely have been notified by the principal.. and then... crickets. I know County Council has term limits thanks to the referendum in November. Anyone know if Board of Ed does also? |
| They knew the story was going to blow up in their face. This is an untenable situation . I have a feeling that ICE is going to start deporting illegals that enroll in school. The combination of swift deportation for illegals enrolling in school along with the introduction of vouchers for any parent that wants it are the only perfectly legal ways to bring order and a serious academic atmosphere. |
| Does the school have security guards? If so, do they walk the building? Not saying that would have caught these animals, but maybe schools need hall monitors or ask that teachers remain in the hallways at least 2 or so minutes after the bell rings. |
NO. The age of consent is 16 in MD. |
Yes, they have 5 full-time security/officers in Rockville HS. The incident occurred in a bathroom in an isolated part of the building. |
http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/maryland-age-of-consent-lawyers.html "In Maryland, persons aged between 14 and 16 may consent to sex as long as the other partner is not more than 4 years older." |
What exactly were they doing? Dunkin Donuts? |
They have 5 full-time officers and 105 cameras throughout the building. Principal said it's NOT enough. Also says they patrol the building and only review videos as necessary. A parent commented that it would make sense and could prevent crimes if they had security dedicated to monitoring the cameras. You know they could have seen these rapist pulling this poor girl into the boys bathroom and stopped them before they raped, sodomized, and forced her to perform oral sex. |
The age of consent with no caveats regarding the other person's age is 16. Minors aged 14 and 15 can consent as long as the other person is not 4 or more years older than their age. My interpretation of this law differs slightly from PP's as it appears to me that the other person must be at most three years older than the 14 or 15 year old who consented in order for the other person not to be guilty of a criminal act, albeit not statutory rape. It looks like if a 14 year old had consented to the act an 18 year old would still be guilty of a 4th degree sexual offense. See § 3–307(a)(4) here: http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/frmStatutesText.aspx?article=gcr§ion=3-307&ext=html&session=2017RS&tab=subject5, and this convenient but slightly less authoritative chart: https://www.peoples-law.org/age-consent |
| Many parents were enraged that Smith called it an "event" it was RAPE. Guess he thinks if we call it an "event" it will protect his rep and minimize how he fucked up by trying to cover this up. It's so big. I've never heard of student being raped by two men on school grounds in my 40 years. This is so HUGE. It's not just an "event". |
