BRYC Girls TD Larry Best leaving for Washington Spirit

BRYC u15-16-17-19 (4 teams)

90 goals conceded in 78 conference games

WS 15-17-19 (3 teams)

108 goals conceded in 39 conference games

How can this be when the 04 keepers are so fantastic, and one even plays up? That should insulate the 15s and 17s. Or are most of those goals against the 19s?

Goals conceded by BRYC in conference 16-17-19 age groups

63 in 59 games

Goals conceded by Washington spirit VA in conference 15-17-19 age groups

108 in 39 games.

WS have played 20 games less. Probably will end up over 200 in a season, but let's talk badly about a 14 year old gk on an anonymous site. Some disturbed people on here

The post says “BRYC keepers” which implies more than one. And, which implies that this is what the GK coach is teaching them to do. In your effort to defend your 14 year old gk, you then went on to talk badly about the performances of the children who play gk at WS. Can’t have it both ways. Maybe all of you are disturbed and need to step away from this anonymous forum for a while.

Again, someone came on here and stated that BOTH WS 04 goalkeepers would START on ANY team in the area. That is delusional. No other way around it. For sure, VDA and FCV GKs have been in the training center consistently for multiple years. McLean has a very strong keeper. Arlington keeper is very good. However, if the two keepers at WS were really the two best in the area (the only way both could start at ANY other team) then why split time? Are we to believe that WS is so compelling of an offering despite the horrendous WS stats posted above for BOTH of the area’s 2 best 04 goalkeepers to share playing time?

Whoever posted the original post needs to understand that comments like the one made are going to get responses. Doesn’t make the responders the delusional ones.

Just because a “delusional” adult posted something in praise of a child’s performance, doesn’t mean the child is fair game. Attack the adult who’s posting rather than trying to tear down a child on an anonymous forum. Bullying is bullying no matter how you spin it. If all of these people who are tearing down kids they, most likely, don’t even know would like to tell everyone who their child is so everyone can pile on and list all of the mistakes she’s ever made, then this thread should continue. If you’re not willing to do that, then maybe this should be the end of discussions like this.

They are attacking WS and the kids at the same time. It really is both an art and obsession. As previous posters have pointed out, training center visits have as much to do with who you know/knows you as merit. No slouches there, but there’s lot more to getting there than just being a very good player. Second, goals against scores really don’t say much about the keeper position. They say a lot about the level of competition and are in line with what everyone (WS parents included) have said about WS being a little behind in overall talent due to lack of pipeline/being the new kid on the block. From the perspective of keeper, that means that these players are getting tons more quality reps under pressure than a young VDA or FCV player that may only see a few pressures a game. I know which environment I’d rather my kid train in, and it’s not the country club case where they spend more time twiddling thumbs with few decisions, reactions, and touches. The keepers for WS I have seen are all very good, and they have to be. Could GK training be improved...maybe. But this GK discussion is another line of conversation opened here which is not grounded in an accurate representation of the players or the environment. What a surprise.

Just so everyone is clear, it is ok for people to "put down" other keepers by stating the WS keepers are better than all the rest but if the opposite occurs it is bullying? You people need to snap back into reality. People saying any child "sucks" at anything are losers as adults. But don't come on here with the holier than thou attitude and put down other teams players by pumping up your own teams players and then cry bullying when the opposite happens.

Nobody said the Spirit players were better. Capable of starting at another club doesn't mean better. It could mean same as. Let it go. It is best to not talk about specific kids in general and certainly not cool when it is negative. I feel a report button getting clicked if this line of conversation continues.

Maybe We should take a look at the Defenders for both teams and compare.. for most teams from U15 and under I would say the lack of quality defenders are more to blame than the GKs .. If you lucky enough to have 2 or more "quality defenders" than the GKs job is easier to judge. without that factor its not fair to attack any GK

LOL--maybe we should look at the whole team, because defense starts with the striker and the attack starts with the keeper. This is really a ridiculous line of discussion aimed at trying to attack kids and parents.

If your kid is so stellar, come to Spirit and displace those players.

The showcases, other tournaments, and spring season cannot get here soon enough, so all of us crazy, soccer-obsessed parents can post about something other than position-by-position analyses of each player at each NoVa DA or ECNL club.

The U15s have very strong defenders. One is so good, I've seen her stand on the line and block shots when either of the goalies gets out of positions. I think quality defenders matter at every age group though.

I hope this is sarcasm.

McLean have national champions at u19. Conference leaders at 17s, 16s are getting better. 19s are amazing, could win it all again.

Confusing to read from spirit people they don't do well at showcases or nationals. Showcase results are not a reflection of anything, minutes are split, starters don't always play, committed kids sometimes don't travel. Before McLean last year a team from VA never won an ECNL nationals. It is a very high level!!!

Spirit needs to fix its own problems
8th of 8 at u15 in conference
6th of 6 in conference at u16/17

Truth

It’s crazy what Mikey has been able to do considering where the u15 age group was at u14, and how consistent the u16 & u17s are. It’s also worth noting how the u19 girls finished considering they didn’t have Mikey nor Larry. Instead they were given a coach with no licenses and no experience, yet still found a way to be successful based off their own abilities. Regardless of what everyone thinks of the talent level, it seems there’s some pretty special people playing at that club.

The U16s are special.
The 19 girls were good long before Miley took over --- they had good coaching and good talent.

The u19s finished closer to bottom last year, This year 2nd of 11. The turnaround in the u15 and u19 age groups at BRYC is hard to believe . The year before that the now u17s went from 8th in CCL to 3rd in ECNL. The 16s have always been special. They have very good young coaches. Larry did a fantastic job hiring young staff and giving them the platform to succeed. Do not be surprised if Larry tries to take Mikey to the Washington spirit. Mikey is young and could probably kick start the Washington Spirit academy VA...
