No field players that were denied DA spots were offered any level of ECNL spot. Sometimes a good goalie is hard to find for girls. Spirit certainly has its own goalie issues - and the lack of any meaningful goalkeeper program means that won't change any time soon.

Spirit has some excellent goalkeepers. Either of their 04s could start on any other competitive team in the region, DA or ECNL.

These are the delusional Spirit posts. I know for certain that neither spirit 04 GK would make the roster, let alone start, at VDA, McLean, Arlington, FCV and most likely BRYC as well. And there may be many more places they wouldn’t start. Complete delusion.

They would definitely start over the current BRYC 04 keeper. I've seen her play. She's average. BRYC has struggled in a goalie for that team. The players themselves are better than the scoreline precisely because of that.

You are a despicable human being.

Anonymously attacking a specific player in a public forum? She's 14 years old.

You really need to get offline for a while and reflect on who you have become as a person.

Isn’t that what was being done to the 04 Spirit keepers with all of the comments about them not being good enough? Seems like your outrage comes a little late. Everyone all of these whacko parents are talking about on this thread is a child. Maybe everyone should remember that.

OK fine. I should have written: You are a despicable human being, and so is the poster who wrote that neither Spirit 04 keeper would make those other teams.

Saying a kid would not be able to displace keepers at other teams though is not the same as calling a kid "average", claiming that she has "struggled", and that her team is "better than the scoreline" because of her.

So that makes poster#2 much more despicable than the other poster.

These rosters are all online. All of these posts singling out specific players should be deleted.

You know where the report button is right?

Do it! You’ll have done a service and you will feel empowered too.

1. I agree. They shouldn't play up but they are excellent in their own age group.
2. I will even add to that group of great keepers that the 03 goalie is even better.
3. BUT the oldest team was unable to recruit any 01 or 00 keeper.
4. In fact, last year's top goalie in the club left for FCV because of the absence of a goalkeeper program. Which continues to be a gap in Spirit VA.
They lack goalies for the oldest team.

The 06 goalie left recently too-and she was fabulous. A big loss for that team!

Where did this 06 goalie go? BRYC?

Well there is fear. But mostly because it requires so much mental fortitude. Many do not have it, or can't get past early failures to develop it. That plus you have to be one of the better athletes to be good at it.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard a parent on a sideline say this or the other most repeated question ("why is it so hard to find a good striker?"), then I would have retired young.

I do not agree. The top 04 keeper who plays more for the 02/03 age group would almost certainly start for VDA, McLean, and likely BRYC. I have not seen FCV and Arlington much this year so I have no comment on if she could play/start there. Before we start the you must be a WS Spirit parent, I want to be clear to point out that I am not. I am a parent of an ECNL player who has seen/played against all of the keepers at one time or another in the last couple of years.

She shouldn't ever be playing on the 02/03 team, but as another Spirit poster mentioned, the 04 team has positive numbers, and this team has "negative" numbers (I guess meaning they don't have a roster of 22. So they move her up to give another field spot to the 04s.

Difficult reality of DA soccer: it represents the top-tier in the land. And ECNL is also very high level soccer. Talent is an expectation. There are travel levels that don't demand as much, and there is rec soccer which demands nothing at all.

If this were true wouldn’t she be in the training center?

How many keepers from the various top area teams have been at training centers? I can think of one -- I believe the FCV keeper went at some point. That's not really a fair way to judge -- training center invites are subjective and a function of what scout is watching when.

Just she? The original comment was that BOTH of the 04 WS goalies would START at ANY team in the area. BOTH. That is ludicrous. So they BOTH should be in the training center. Unless something has changed recently, I don't think EITHER of them were in the training center.

What is a better way to judge? Parents on a message board? LOL.

You peeps are cray cray. I don't know who said they would both start somewhere else. Not saying they would. Don't know. But there's a difference between starting and playing. There is also a difference between starting at an area team - DA, ECNL or another one with a great keeper -- vs. being invited to the training center. If you think of all of the DA and ECNL teams in the US who all have 1-2 goalies who have made teams at that level, that's still a few hundred goalies in each age group. I don't pretend to know how many keepers go to the training center but I doubt it's that many. If the training center is the bar to be considered good enough, then there are very few players who meet that criteria. We've gone off the rails about 2 14 year old girls.

BRYC keepers I have seen yell "up and in" and then punt straight down the middle... 80% of the time.

Goals conceded by BRYC in conference 16-17-19 age groups

63 in 59 games

Goals conceded by Washington spirit VA in conference 15-17-19 age groups

108 in 39 games.

WS have played 20 games less. Probably will end up over 200 in a season, but let's talk badly about a 14 year old gk on an anonymous site. Some disturbed people on here

Let's add in the u15 BRYC team too.

BRYC u15-16-17-19 (4 teams)

WS 15-17-19 (3 teams)
