BRYC Girls TD Larry Best leaving for Washington Spirit

Anonymous
From BRYC:

Effective January 14, 2019, Larry Best will be stepping down from his role as Technical Director of our Girl’s Academy. Larry will be vacating his full-time role with BRYC Elite Academy to pursue a new journey with the Washington Spirit Professional Women’s Soccer franchise. While Larry’s full-time role with the club is coming to an end, he will continue to serve the club in an advisory capacity as a member of our Executive Committee as well as supporting the staff in player development. I appreciate his on-going involvement and support of BRYC.

Key members of the technical and coaching staff have met and will continue to meet to sort out Spring coverage and discuss any changes in club structure going forward. As decisions are made, they will be communicated to the membership.

For those who know Larry well this pursuit should not come as a total surprise. Larry’s passion and commitment for improving the quality of girls/women’s soccer is without peer. The new role with the Spirit will afford Larry the unique opportunity to make a difference at the highest levels of the game in this country.

The decision for Larry to leave his full-time role with BRYC Elite Academy was not an easy one when you consider the influence and impact he has had on the development of the club’s brand, it’s culture, development model, and the hundreds of lives he has enriched. Ultimately, the opportunity to partner with Steve Baldwin in this endeavor with the Spirit, was too compelling to turn down. Steve’s daughter was a member of the BRYC Elite 95’s National Championship team who Larry coached for 12+ years.

What? Again? Did he not leave in 2016, briefly anyway?

He has coached the u13 team and is a solid coach. How will they manage.

He has phased out over the past year, seemed like it was coming for a while. He passed off the 15-19 age groups to other staff members. Good Luck Larry. He will do great at the spirit.

It looks like BRYC knew this was coming, they took steps splitting up responsibilities last year, they have had staff running different sections of the club. They have an ECNL Director, Foundation academy director, Junior academy director (Larry).

Kind of bizarre that they have plucked two somewhat obscure local youth level coaches for these key positions in the organization.

You can't give Larry credit for that; that's all Mikey, just check his twitter.
