If he's CEO of the pro team, what in that announcement means he's coaching for the DA? I didn't get that from the link. |
If he is the CEO of Washington Spirit, I would hope he would have more interest in the success of the Washington Spirit Academy than his old BRYC Academy? |
I'm not saying he will or won't, but that's not been announced and sounds like conjecture at this point. And if he does have any role, since he was hired for the pro team specifically, it may be shared between the VA and MD halves. If anyone knows factually that he's joining the VA DA, please post the link. I'm very curious. |
| New Spirit owner will actually phase out the DA academy. |
That is also something I would like any link or factual information on. I've heard that rumor as well, but have yet to see any proof for. The program certainly hasn't been lighting it up with success stories, but that's a far cry from being phased out. |
Follow up: Do you know this first hand, or you think that based on your interpretation of something? |
| It came from someone working with the Spirit. Not sure if it will happen soon, but I think the new owner doesn't want any part of the DA business! As of right now it's only hearsay! |
| The poster who said email Tom made me laugh... I'm sure Larry Best will be giving those Spirit players that can make a BRYC ECNL team a little push towards his former club. Goodnight Spirit VA |
| I think it makes sense to phase out the VA side of their DA and just keep the MD side. As we've discussed on these forums ad nauseum, there are too many high-level options in NOVA and Spirit VA continues to struggle. Spirit MD is still close enough for VA players if they are really committed to being with Spirit and no one else. If most (all?) of the other NWSL teams have an affiliated DA, then I think they'd still want to keep at least one finger in that pie. |
Prepare to be shocked |
No way this will happen...without DA academy, season ticket sales will plummet... |
An interesting development if it happens. I had assumed that the DA side was actually a money maker but perhaps its just the coaching resource drain thats the issue. I imagine Torres was heavily oversubscribed this year. |
He's got to be elated of over this. It's another level of authority removed --- he can further continue his childish antics and nasty behavior with fewer and fewer people above him. I'm sure he already get his business cards printed with Girls Technical Director... |
It will happen |
