How many more inches did your son grow from age 13 onward?

Our son always used to chart on the 85% or higher for height percentile at doctor's well visits when younger.
Now at age 13 he is 5'5'' and at 50%. I don't think he has had his major growth spurt yet, obviously, but wanted to ask those with older sons how many inches their boys grew from age 13 onward. I know every kid varies, I'm just curious. I don't have brothers and my husband isn't very tall, but all the men on my side of the family are 6 ft or 6' 2''(my uncles and first cousins). So far our son has always shared my body build type, and that of my male cousins(lanky and lean limbs). He has very long legs now, like a baby deer, with really long calf bones. Do you think this suggests a lot more height coming? He is an athlete and hopes to be taller than his 5'9'' dad...

I still remember my high school gym teacher, who also taught health classes, telling us about her son growing 9 inches in one year. (She was an institution in our school, not least because she made us all watch early 1960s films of childbirth, said films being produced by the military. Totally gory and scary.)

My husband grew about six inches his freshman year at college.

From 12/13 to 20/21, we have a son who grew over a foot.

Was it slow and steady, a couple of inches a year, or there were growth spurts, then the following year minimal growth?

Did he just turn 13 or is he getting close to 14?

My 13 year old son, born in February, has shot up almost four inches since the spring.

My son grew seven inches between 13-14. Your son is about to grow like crazy so don’t splurge on pants/shoes right now! My husband grew several inches in his early 20s! 😊

My kids were so little at age 13 - one grew probably 5 or 6 inches, until he was done, the other is 16 and still growing. I think boys grow a lot later than girls seem tdo.

+ 1

DS just turned 14 and had grown 4 inches since turning 13. He is still no giant at 5'4 but it is progress.

My son grew 6.5 inches between 14th birthday and 15 1/2 (just measured the marks on the wall). He was a late bloomer, and still seems to be shooting up. His stats sound a lot like your son’s.

My son is 13 and nine months and he has grown SO much this year alone. He’s 5’11” now and was probably 5’6” when he turned 13. Your son is still prime growing age.

My dad started his freshman year of college (I think, or the senior year of high school - the story seems to change!) as the shortest in his class - and left the tallest at 6'3.

My husband did too.
He went from 5'10" to 6'4".
When we went to his high school reunion it's all people talked to him about all.night.long.

However, he did not start puberty until 15/16 (super late).

Wow, did your sons get a lot of growing pains with such growth spurts? I remember my cousin grew something like 7 inches in a year (he's now 6'5") and he went through a phase where he could hardly walk without falling over since his body was so awkward.
