How many more inches did your son grow from age 13 onward?

Anonymous
My older son grew early and was tall in middle school and has not grown since turning 15- he is 5'11 which tracks with his childhood growth percentiles of average height.

My younger son is 5'8 and just turned 13 so no data on him yet. I am short (5'2) and DH is tall (6'4) so its kind of a crapshoot.

Yes, you read my mind.
I will say 5 feet 9

OP never said how tall SHE was, which is an important data point!

Older son grew from 5’7 at 13 to 5’10 at 15 and stopped growing in height, but has put on muscle steadily in the years since then.

Younger son was 5’11 at 13 and is 6’2” at 15.5. Still lean and lanky and trying very hard to bulk up his 145 frame without much luck so far.

If dad is 5'9, and without knowing OP's height, I'm going with 5'10.

The families I know with super short moms and really tall dads--the boys never seem to make it up to the dad's height. Mom's DNA drags em down.

Yes, my kids played basketball and I saw lots of these families. Dad was really tall and played basketball and got kids into basketball, but they didn't grow as tall as him.

My son has grown 3-4” since he was 13. He’s now 15. And still growing.

Anonymous wrote:Wow, did your sons get a lot of growing pains with such growth spurts? I remember my cousin grew something like 7 inches in a year (he's now 6'5") and he went through a phase where he could hardly walk without falling over since his body was so awkward.

Some boys get stretch marks, especially on their backs, from rapid growth.

My kid went from 5'7" at Thanksgiving last year to 6'2" at Thanksgiving this year (age 13 to 14). He grew a few inches the year before, too. He got Osgood-Schlatter in his knee (very very painful), looked like a fledgling stork when he ran, which is unfortunate for an athlete, and when he takes his shirt of at the pool everyone gasps and asks how and why he got whipped, because he has red stretch marks from his mid back to his lower back. He's pleased he is tall, sure, but has not been easy.

Very similar for my DS, down to growth plate issues. His coach commented that he runs like a baby giraffe now.

Our son was at the 65th percentile until he was 13. At the end of his 7th grade year, he started growing and hit 5'9" by the beginning of 9th. He ended up being 6'1", but I'm tall (5'9") and my husband isn't exactly short (a hair under 6'0").

Mine is still a young teen but he was 5’5.5” at his 13th birthday and 5’10” at his 14th birthday. His growth plates are still open (had an arm injury so X-rays were taken) so we assume he has a few more inches left in him to get caught up to his father.

See this so often. Dad was a strapping lad and athlete in his youth who marries a petite woman. He's always disappointed and shocked when his kid's height is dragged down by mom. I guess people aren't terribly calculating when it comes to selecting a spouse. Maybe they should be if they care about these things.

I think 5’11” - 6’ is perfect height wise. Too short or too tall both have their problems. No issues with 5’11” or 6’.

5 inches between 14.5-17 years of age. Maybe still growing. Should be 6 feet now.
No crazy growth spurt and late boomer.
I'm 5'7". I should have been taller, but no food and no breast milk. Dad is 5'10". One grandfather was 6 feet though.

Mine is a later bloomer was 5’1” at 13 and 5’3” at 14. Currently 15.5 and 5’10”. Probably has a bit of growth left yet as his voice hasn’t changed yet, barely has underarm hair. But who knows.

Most of his same aged friends have not grown much height wise in the past year (had their big growth sports at 13-14) and are probably done growing. Lots of threads about late bloomers on DCUM or will hear an occasional story about a man who grew in college etc but seems to be quite uncommon IRL.
