Tweens and Teens
I imagine that was his main growth spurt? |
|
My son has always been in the 95% for height AND weight.
He turned 14 in July and is close to 5'10". There's no voice change and no facial hair growth or hair under his armpits, etc. Pediatrician thinks he will be between 6"3" and 6"5". |
| Curious if your 6'+ sons were tall as younger kids and tended to grow evenly or if most kids have noticeable growth spurts? I have a 10 year old who is 5', which I think is around the 90th percentile- if he stays on his growth curve, it predicts he'll be 6'1", but I'm curious if he'll hit that sooner or if he'll grow nice and steadily till he's 18. I'm adopted and men of my racial background tend to be shorter on average, so I don't have any bio relatives to compare to. |
| Six or seven inches in year 13.its marked on the wall in the basement. |
| All.depends on when puberty happens. My son is 14.5 and STILL has not hit puberty. He has like 5 public hairs and that's it. He's been growing like crazy (probably 3. 5 inches this year) and no puberty in sight. |
This. It all depends on where he is in puberty. OP, look up Tanner stages. Body hair (excepting pubic hair) doesn’t tell you much about where a boy is. Pubic hair does. My DS grew 11” from the age of 13 to the age of 17. But that’s because he just started puberty at 13, which is on the later side. |
| My son was 4’ 11” at 13. He is now 17 and bordering on 6’. Doctor says that he thinks there might be another inch there because he didn’t enter full puberty until 15. Never lose hope!! |
| At 13, he was 5'5. He is turning 18 this month and is 6'3. It was fun to mark this growth on a wall. He passed me (5'8) at 14/15 and passed his dad (6'1) at 16/17. |
My son is the 6'2" kid with stretchmarks and OS. He has always been tall - he was 10lbs 3oz at birth, long and skinny from day 1. He has stayed at about 95th percentile for height and 50th percentile for weight over time. He has almost always been the tallest in the class. I think that will change - his growth started early and seems to have slowed, and I imagine some of the boys who start puberty later will pass his height in the coming couple of years. |

I have the rare DCUM son who is not 6'2 and isn't adding inches in college.
When he was in elementary school, his doctor predicted an adult height of 5'9. He grew about 6 or 7 inches between 13.5 and 14.5 and was done growing by 16. He's a little over 5'9". |
| ^^^^^ DS just turned 14 and he has grown 6 in/year the last 2 years. Already over 6'. A heavy breeze could knock him over. |
| My DH who is 6'3" got all his height in high school. |
But you might be surprised if he has a growth spurt in his early 20s like my husband did!! |
| is it possible to grow in college after a few years of slow growth in high school? I think my 16.5 year old is almost done growing. he grew only 2 inches since 14. He would be happy to grow 1 or 2 more inches. is there any hope? |
Yup, on DCUM everyone's son is 6'2", weighted GPA of 4.5, 1590 SATs, and in a top 25 college.
