There is nothing xenophobic about up's comment. It is fact. It has changed dramatically in less than 20 years. |
So pointing out that it is not beneficial to working-class Americans for an entire town to be made up entirely of poor foreigners, many of whom are high school dropouts, here illegally, and getting government help to feed their kids is xenophobic? You liberals need to get a clue. It is fine for self-supporting foreigners to come here LEGALLY, support themselves, and integrate among the existing Americans - but it is a negative for foreigners who cannot even feed their own children (!!) to take over an entire area, lower the caliber of the public schools, and expect American taxpayers to help provide for them. |
First, whoever said these ESOL families are eligible for rent subsidies? They are, however, getting free breakfasts and lunches, along with ESOL classes, and causing an overall need for more teachers. The cost PER ESOL KID PER YEAR is $15,000. Are you trying to claim that these impoverished families not even able to afford their kid's lunch is paying $15,000 a year property tax? They are bunched up 10 and 12 people to an apartment that rents for maybe $1000 a month at most, with the "pass-through" property tax being, at most, $2,000 per apartment annually. In the meantime, there are six kids all getting educated for free. So....do the math: Six kids x $15,000 is $90,000 (!!!) a year, and for that, they're pitching in $2,000 in property taxes. OF COURSE they are getting a free ride on the backs of American taxpayers. This liberal nonsense about how illegal aliens "pay their keep" via sales tax and whatnot is not convincing anyone other than gullible liberals. If illegal aliens are not a financial drain, why the uproar from liberals about Trump's plan to move them to the sanctuary cities they support, where the liberals will protect their interests? |
| This reeks of NIMBY. The left talks a good game until they have to pony up... brilliant of 45 imho. |
I asked for a source, not your anecdotal perception. |

Yes, this is the problem, neighbors living right next to a public school in SFHs cannot send their kids there because it is overrun by kids who make the school 3/10.
I have first hand stories about non Spanish speaking kids being 1-2 per classroom and being left out of recess play and/or bullied. I have stories of lunch theft and snack theft. I have stories of harsh discipline methods because the teacher is just stretched thin. And if you think middle class kids are exempt you are wrong. Nobody has the time or energy to work on social emotional development of your child. They need to have a semblance of order to be able to drill the basics. I have seen/heard things first hand (my kid was at a similar school) and through a good friend who was teaching in a school like that. I was lucky to have been able to pull out my kid. Until I compared to a normal middle class school I had no idea. |
Not either of these PPs. i think you are going to have a hard time getting this information--but first PP is correct. When Obama issued DACA, there was a huge influx into Fairfax County schools of unaccompanied minors. This last year there has been a significant increase to the schools from ESOL kids. If you think they are all arriving on visas, you are mistaken. Talk to some of the ESOL teachers in Fairfax. Anecdotal is probably all you are going to get because the school system likely does not know who is documented or not. I posted earlier that a heavily Hispanic elementary school has had an increase of 39 kids since the beginning of the year. 23 since January. That is not normal. This is a school that is almost entirely free lunch. This data can be found on the FCPS website if you go to the school profiles. |
| All 50 states plus USA supported territories should receive unauthorized immigrants imho. We can't just burden some states. Spread them out, even here in the DMV. |
Again it's not a "free ride." Sounds like poor planning in your community instead of screaming at the rest of us, jack up property taxes on renters. And by the way you also realize that the folks paying more in property taxes are also subsidizing the US citizens who don't pay as much? |
Ahem. |
That doesn't mean Obama "dumped" them in Fairfax county. And, how would DACA correspond to a huge influx of unaccompanied minors needing ESOL classes? |

Is there some distinction between "unauthorized" and "illegal" immigrants? |
