This person was in 9th grade in name only. He wasn't in your kids's algebra or history class, because he didn't have the English proficiency. Probably 90% of his classes were ESL classes with other ESL kids of varying ages.

Yes, 18 year olds do come into contact with 14 years olds in high school, like between classes, and during other classes that are not grade-specific (German class, shop class, etc). Probably 20% of students at Rockville HS are currently 18 -- lots of 12th graders are easily 18 already.

I also don't mind if 18 year olds are IN CLASS with 14 year olds since there is a teacher there supervising at all time. That's probably the safest place to be.

What I am furious about is how students are walking the empty halls during class, and there is no monitoring and no one to hear the screams of an innocent victim. How did that happen?

Do you really think these rapists were well-behaved students or is there a strong possibility they were sexually harassing the 14 year old girls in their 9th grade ESL classes? Just because your kids aren't ESL doesn't mean 14 year old immigrant girls should have to put up with having 18 to 20 year olds in their class. There is a strong possibility that the 14 year victim might be an ESL immigrant from a non-Spanish speaking country since she didn't understand what the rapists were saying but they spoke to her in the hallway. So don't disregard the safety of the young immigrant teenage girls because "he wasn't in your kid's algebra or history class". These girls are someone's kid and deserve to be safe. If you have no chance of graduating by 21 then you shouldn't be in a regular high school. This would exclude all freshman ages 17 and above.

This. No reason to integrate 500+ students in the METS program in MCPS high schools- surprisingly the W schools don't get the burden of taking them in.

Thanks Governor Hogan to have veto power for Monday's irresponsible and outraged legislation.

Fox has been reporting on it.

Meeting tonight at Rockville High at 7pm. Finally they are saying something. Maybe the White House being on top of it encoraged them to do something. Disgusted by how Mcps always attempts to sweep things under the rug. Shameful. Never sending my dd to an Mcps hs.

What part is good? Saying it was horrific? Everyone thinks that?

Saying the pending bill is bad and will make us into a sanctuary jurisdiction? It won't. Most of the state is doing all this already and is in full compliance with federal law. The only change it would make would be to the local jurisdictions who opted into the 287(g) program that deputizes local law enforcement to function as immigration agents. (Without federal reimbursement, I might add.) Frederick and Harford Counties currently participate.

This. Everyone needs to come to demand school safety for law-abiding residents. Bring signs. Tons of media is sure to be there, now that this brutal crime is on the national news.

Including the students in MCPS who are unauthorized immigrants or the US-citizen children of unauthorized immigrants -- right?

I'm here now. Auditorium is packed. Security is heavy. Lots of media and even protesters outside the school.

Love that this has become "high profile".....maybe something useful will finally be done!

I'm eager to hear:

1. How students will be protected from criminal predators.

2. How Montgomery County public officials will start to cooperate with ICE to reduce the numbers of criminals allowed on Montgomery County school property.

Voted for him and very proud of him.
Finally a voice of reason in a state trashed by dems.
