| OP here and I had no intention of shaming parents or kids. I just had a question and I’ve received the answers I was looking for. |
When my husband went to high school in the deep south (any further south, and you'd be underwater), he wasn't allowed to wear shorts, and the schools didn't have air conditioning. I just checked that high school's dress code now: they have uniforms, girls (but not boys) have to pass the "fingertip length" test, shirt length is regulated (not too long, not too short), the only piercings they allow are normal ear piercings, no flip flops, Afros may not be longer than 3 inches, beards are not allowed, hair in "unusual colors" is not allowed... A good indicator of the school's priorities, in my opinion, and I don't mean it as a compliment. |
Why are you taking offence to my comments? Do you not respect strippers and escorts? Is an escort any less of an honorable profession than say Big Law? You are fine with people expressing themselves through their clothes but not through their profession? |
Or as the Ivy League lady reminded us, your kids boss. This is a disturbing thread. My kid doesn’t wear crop tops. She is really doesn’t put too much thought into her clothes. I occasionally do wonder if her shorts are too small (3.5 in inseams is what she buys). But she is covered, happy with herself, doing well in school, and is overall a lovely person. Why harass her about style (especially when I know nothing about it). |
| I don't mind the Sporty Spice look, but my daughter said the zippy jackets come off in class and girls have stopped wearing bras under their tops in the name of feminism. She's 13 and wondering where it's all going. |
Parents shaming girls definitely will |
OMG back at you. It doesn't sound like it is bothering OP, it sounds like she wants to know if they're allowed or appropriate for school. |
I'm the pearl clutcher from upthread and I love this and want a movie about it. |
And if your daughter dresses like a slut, don't be shocked when the boys only want one thing from her. There is a large swath between 'accountant' and 'slut'. Surely, there is something in the middle. Self-respect and decorum for godssake. It's school, not Lallapalooza or a DaBaby concert. |
Next you'll tell us that short skirts cause sexual assault. |
I'm a GenXer from the Midwest, and I remember boys wearing shirts like that. Not a lot, but not none, either. |
To heck in a bucket, obviously! Or, alternatively, nowhere in particular. Bralessness will not cause the world to come to an end. |
