Half shirts to high school!

Anonymous

What a strange excuse: "That's all they had in the store!".

There is something called the internet... it's been years since anyone in my family shopped at an actual brick and mortar for clothes. That way we buy exactly what we envision for ourselves, regardless of what crap the physical stores are pushing on clients.

I’m so sick of clothing stores/fashion industry selling such trashy clothes for girls. I went last week with my girls and 90% of the clothes are trashy or inappropriate for school and the rest is ugly.
It’s been this way for decades.
How do we as parents/consumers change this crappy fashion industry?

Boys never have this problem. Most of their clothes are standard, appropriate, functional clothes. My girls used to wear unisex clothes, but they are almost non-existent for the teen segment

Super trashy. Got a holiday card from a friend with her daughter in a half shirt. I could not believe it.

Fine for walking in the neighborhood, getting coffee, the mall, but school? No.

I went to high school in the late 90s and crop tops were in style then but they were banned by our dress code.

What’s wrong with them? I’m curious. They aren’t “offensive” to me.

I try to keep it to ones that are just barely above the pants waist—not ones showing multiple inches of skin when arms are in resting position. You should be able to raise your hand in class without your bra showing, at a minimum.
I would t want the guys showing off their six packs at school either.

Winter will come soon enough.

There are a lot of things middle & high schoolers do that I don’t like, but it’s generally considered their right…pink hair, nose piercings, fishnet stockings… cropped shirts are no exception.

The sexualization of everything is getting sickening. In India 80-year-old widows wear mid-riff bearing saris-there is nothing sexual about it. If teens want to wear something because it is the style or they have outdoor PE in 90+ degree weather, it >GASP< might not be they are trying to be trashy????!! Men take off their shirts in 50 deg weather JUST to try and attract women and nobody calls them trashy. Also, you should read the data about Vitamin D and covid, not to mention rickets and osteomalacia. Pay the medical bills of the midriff baring from 10am-2pm if you find them so "trashy". I bet you're fat and cottage cheesy and that's why belittling GIRLS and not men is your only hobby.

I look at photos of things I wore in HS and I cringe. So short, so tight, so "inappropriate." And gasp, I got a great education, went to an Ivy, and now am a functioning adult with a husband and children. Whatever.

Yes, OP, cropped shirts are in fashion right now, and people wear them to school.

+1
Guys and girls wore them in the 80s. Remember Saved but the Bell? Also much crazier.

People, relax! If you put all that on your kids clothes, so will they? Ask them if they’re comfortable (like, can you raise your hand to ask a question ok?), ask them if they like the clothes, then… step back! I hate how all these modesty freaks are sexualizing my daughter’s clothing choices. I hate dress codes- sexist! racist! classist! Let your kid wear what they want and like the PP said above, they will be fine! Just love them up and make sure they know you support them and think their bodies are awesome. Not dangerous objects for boys to go crazy over, or disgusting objects to hide in the name of “professionalism “ (heehee- high schoolers are not professionals!).

OP- please let your kid wear whatever they want. All the tops fit like that these days, and they’re meant to go with high waisted pants. Good luck.
