You missed the arrest of MCPS Richard Shemer. |

Ugh. Why did I read that? It is clear that FS-1 was a virgin or very naïve sexually and he loved that. Gross gross man.
I have a DD who does crew for another team out of TBC. I hate this. Hindsight is 20/20 with the girls now but there was stuff brewing with the Whitman girls over the summer. They knew something was coming. |
Perhaps (IANAL). It is against MCPS policy, though. |
| Is he possibly the "chasing chicks" poster from the College forum? |
What if a parent from PTA (not sports bc conflict) sent an anonymous survey for kids through the year to remind them of what is inappropriate and to tell if something is going on that they want to tell an adult about? I'm not sure how actionable it would be and would probably get some troll responses but it's the start of a rough idea. I'm sure some of the teammates knew but didn't know what to do |
| Wonder what happened to make all of this come to light now… |
First of all, you're disgusting. Second, employers have codes of conduct, and I would guess that sexually grooming minors or whatever you creeps call it would fall outside the bounds of acceptable behavior. |
Yeah, I wondered that as well. I admire the young women who went to the police. Like a PP said, this helps to reinforce my feeling that it’s ok/a good idea to monitor tween/teen texts and social media. This infuriated one of my kids (who went to Whitman and had Mr. Shipley as a teacher) at the time, but now he gets it. |
Kids need to have clear guidelines on who to speak with. There need to be several options--for example, if a student does not feel comfortable disclosing to the designated admin or teacher, there should be at least one other staff member who is trained to receive this information and to take the appropriate action. And the administration needs to respond and/or report it to the authorities if needed. |
Yes this. "Talk to an adult" is very vague and there may be reasons they don't want to talk to certain adults |
| The text messages seem to imply it was a consensual relationship. |
What does that have to do with anything? Sex with a minor is illegal. Sex with a student is gross. |
| Because he groomed her. That’s what grooming is. When MCPS students understand that that’s not okay, we will see more reports. But MCPS might not do a full investigatIon or penalize the person reported. If enough predators end up back in the classroom, that sends a loud message to students about whose rights matter more. |
She was 18 and they never had "sex" per Bill Clinton's definition. |
If you’re his lawyer, that’s not the winningest defense. |
