We’ll every time we pass gun control laws, Congress overturns them.

Do you have examples in the last decade? Can you cite which laws concerning sentencing for gun crime were reduced by Congress? I see none at all. The courts did nix DC total ban, even for law abiding citizens, who have had full background check, fingerprints, and training, who were banned from having even a revolver in a gun safe, which was a patently unconistutional DC law.

But where the rubber hits the road is gun crimes. It is the hard left constantly fighting for lower sentences and less prosecution of gun crimes in DC, for the really dangerous crime, the ones where people get injured or killed 1) FELON IN POSESSION, ADW and other violent crimes.

So true..we had to bend over backwards for a firearm permit, meanwhile actual illegal use.of firearms is barely glanced at in DC .

Yep. DC only cares about preventing legal gun ownership.

It does seem that way. I don't mind that we had to jump through lots of hoops to legally obtain and register our gun, it should be that way everywhere. But the gun control righteousness does ring hollow when DC routinely pleads down/dismisses illegal firearms used in the commission of crimes. Isn't that another side.of gun control - to strongly disincentive gun.crimes through criminal.penalties?. Makes no sense to me!

Doubling of gun crime sentences is not a deterrent. It might make you feel better, but it doesn't prevent gun violence. You should be asking what is going on with our kids in this city. Schools were closed for a long time and parents weren't paying alot of attention. We need to figure out the kids.

it doesn't "make me feel better". And there was crime before covid. What's changed is the introduction of defund the police, coupled with DCs very strange (non-)approach to youth adjudication and rehabilitation, Charles Allen continuing to push for get out of jail free cards, plus lots of no pursuit laws and treating a lot of fairly invasive crimes like car theft as 'property crimes'. feel free to 'figure out the kids' , but in the meantime they all have hall passes they are enjoying.

Amazing how you can blame "defund the police" on the increase on crime, before any funds have actually been taken away from the police.

Really not a good look that you try to blame crime on something that never even happened. It almost makes it look like you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and just parrot whatever BS they spout on Fox News.

Anyone who shoots up a school with automatic weapons ought to get an express ticket to the gallows, IMO.

Observations:

42 casings found thus far. That was a lot of shooting for a drive by. Three people shooting, you figure that they had 15 round magazines in. They almost all expended their magazines in a brief period of time. That is hard actually, while driving in a car. Obviously demonstrates a wonton disregard for life.

The fact that the victim had been targeted before is scary. But this is the problem with trying to escape "the hood". It does not always want/let you walk away. Let's face it, construction jobs are pretty good conduits to a pathway to earning a living. The work is steady and you can move on to other jobs at the completion of the one you are on. This kid obviously had chosen to work rather than to gang bang. And yet the violence followed him. Sad.

From the article:

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/court-documents-say-man-shot-in-cleveland-park-had-been-targeted-before/2707559/

The gunmen allegedly fired 42 rounds at a 20-year-old, who was hit three times in the leg while working 50 to 100 feet away from the other workers. His femoral artery was severed, but he survived. The other injured man was hit by flying glass.

Law enforcement sources say the victim in Thursday’s shooting was also targeted in a drive-by shooting in April on Hanna Place in Southeast.

Had not seen this. Thanks. Sometimes it is hard to escape the neighborhood. It sounds like the vic had successfully started extracting himself and then life caught up. I hope that this story turns out OK for him. I mean, where does he go now? He has had his life under Assault twice in two months.

Definitely, but I can't remember this happening. Can you remind me when it has occurred?

Usually “what goes around comes around” is how these things work. I’m curious what he did to warrant two murder attempts on his life.

It could be as simple as "he made it". He escaped and is drawing an income and is perceived as having succeeded.

Neighborhood feuds in DC don't have to have a solid, logical kernel to them. From an outside perspective it probably seems silly. From those inside, it is worth life or death.
