For an anti gun ownership kind of city, there is remarkably little reaction to actual gun crime
We’ll every time we pass gun control laws, Congress overturns them.
Do you have examples in the last decade? Can you cite which laws concerning sentencing for gun crime were reduced by Congress? I see none at all. The courts did nix DC total ban, even for law abiding citizens, who have had full background check, fingerprints, and training, who were banned from having even a revolver in a gun safe, which was a patently unconistutional DC law. But where the rubber hits the road is gun crimes. It is the hard left constantly fighting for lower sentences and less prosecution of gun crimes in DC, for the really dangerous crime, the ones where people get injured or killed 1) FELON IN POSESSION, ADW and other violent crimes. https://www.npr.org/2021/04/12/986537208/advocates-say-how-gun-crimes-are-charged-in-washington-d-c-is-a-civil-rights-iss https://wtop.com/dc/2020/04/dc-attorney-general-opposes-prosecution-of-local-gun-cases-in-federal-court/
So true..we had to bend over backwards for a firearm permit, meanwhile actual illegal use.of firearms is barely glanced at in DC .
Yep. DC only cares about preventing legal gun ownership.
It does seem that way. I don't mind that we had to jump through lots of hoops to legally obtain and register our gun, it should be that way everywhere. But the gun control righteousness does ring hollow when DC routinely pleads down/dismisses illegal firearms used in the commission of crimes. Isn't that another side.of gun control - to strongly disincentive gun.crimes through criminal.penalties?. Makes no sense to me!
Doubling of gun crime sentences is not a deterrent. It might make you feel better, but it doesn't prevent gun violence. You should be asking what is going on with our kids in this city. Schools were closed for a long time and parents weren't paying alot of attention. We need to figure out the kids.
it doesn't "make me feel better". And there was crime before covid. What's changed is the introduction of defund the police, coupled with DCs very strange (non-)approach to youth adjudication and rehabilitation, Charles Allen continuing to push for get out of jail free cards, plus lots of no pursuit laws and treating a lot of fairly invasive crimes like car theft as 'property crimes'. feel free to 'figure out the kids' , but in the meantime they all have hall passes they are enjoying.
