Correcting the misinformation that it was at the site of the current temporary school |
Some kind of personal beef |
Why? It sounds like a personal dispute. Why would a car with four young idiots shoot at a random construction site? How stupid do you have to be to do that in Cleveland Park. You know they’re going to find you. Justice in this city is so lopsided. |
| Sounds like a random jump-in? They caught the four perps and a car full of guns in SE. One a juvenile, so Charles Allen will plea down his firearms charge and free him. We were taking a walk nearby when the sirens started up. Could have been our family or anyone going about their business in the vicinty that day. I wish the Construction workers a full recovery. Charles Allen and defunders are idiotic. |
| There’s a busy playground a block away too. So terrifying. |
|
So a random "jump in" in CP. Drive your car across the city. Most likely will get away with it with the no pursuit laws. You just forget to calculate that the no pursuit laws do not apply to the Park Police or the Secret Service or the Park Police helicopter which apparently followed the car across the city.
But the randomness of shooting into a construction site with three shooters is what is scary. Jump in or not. Random acts of violence are terrifying and only encourage the "we should all be armed" crowd. |
it sounds like it was a targeting shooting. props to the park police and secret service in chasing the shooters to the ground. that kind of *immediate* response is the kind of thing that will repress lawlessness, much more than long prison sentences. |
Yes, biggest surprise out of the entire story is that they were all arrested without a protracted month long fruitless search and lots of hand wringing. I was stunned when I saw the reports that all of the perps were subsequently arrested. Amazing job by the Park Police helicopter and the Secret Service. The secret Service were over that area almost instantly. It was pretty crazy. And good job for the MPD figuring out they can get around the dumb no pursuit rules simply by following their federal agencies conducting their own federal pursuits. I am sure that the defunders will blame the Park Police for the crash, but four arrested less than an hour after the incident! That does not happen in DC. |
Oh, good. So as a local neighbor who frequently walks this area, and at nearby Macomb Park, with my kids - this makes me feel so much better. |

NW DC residents:
We must call on Mary Cheh and anyone else who will listen to get a handle on this. This is just the latest incident of gun violence in NW; most rarely make even this small level of coverage. (Just last month, a woman exiting her car in Cleveland Park was robbed at gun point at 11:00 a.m. on a random Friday morning.) We need MORE police and MORE funding and MORE prosecution of crime, not less. I know this area is full of air-headed liberals who like to post signs in their yards and pretend that this kind of thing could never happen to them, because, you know, all people are basically good and simply misunderstood, but guess what. We all need to wake up. The city is out of control on crime and the leafy confines of Wesley Heights, Georgetown, AU Park, Cleveland Park, Spring Valley and beyond are next in line. Please write to our esteemed Councilwoman and express your views. If you don't care about anything else, think about the property value of your $3 million home if gun violence becomes a regular thing in your neighborhood. |
I’m not so sure. Construction workers are up early/bed early kind of guys in the middle of the week. They generally don’t associate with low life unskilled thugs. |
True, but they have brothers, uncles, cousins who do live a more sketchy life and unfortunately, those that manage to escape to real employment sometimes get targeted for someone else's drug deals gone bad, etc. |
| I hope that the US Attorney throws the book at these violent low-lifes, including the so-called “juvenile.” |
That kind of thing (pursuits) is banned for regular MPD in DC. Luckily we had park police / SS nearby. What if we hadn't? These guys would continue joyriding and shooting em up. |
It's not banned for violent crimes like shootings, though if Charles Allen has his way it will be. And DCPS can join in pursuits if Park Police and Secret Service initiate them. |
