Sign is brilliant.

Haven't we used imitation for bumper stickers and yards signs for years.

Why is the BLM language sacrosanct. Doesn't everybody know that it was copies as well?

Probably like any good advertising, they probably imitated simply to get us to talk about it.

The original signs and the silly bumper stickers you cite are on your personal property. Keep your cynical boosterism out of the highway median please. If you want a hockey sign there, fine put one that just advertises youth hockey in a straightforward way. Let’s not use public space to mock each other’s beliefs in the name of supposedly supporting youth sports.

Then ban all median signs. You can't like all of one groups signs but then say another group can't post because you...don't like them.

They are illegal in all of MoCo actually, including political signs. Call MC311 and they will come to take it down.

+1 It is becoming increasingly apparent. Gotta love how earnest they are though. Hope they grow up before their sourpuss expresses freeze on their faces. I'm pretty much as blue as blue can be but all this harping and complaining (from the random to his sign looks like my sign) is working on my last nerve.

There's a reason some comedians have stopped doing shows on college campuses.

Please tell me you’re not comparing BLM/woke left bumper sticker-like slogans to a groundbreaking speech by the preeminent civil rights figure of our time.

Don't worry, the woke mob will be destroying MLK statues in no time. They'll find some insane reason to cancel him. It's not his time yet, they're busy with other things. Just wait.

He was a womanizer.

These are parents who not only allow but encourage their kids to play a sport where CTE is a significant risk. Not the brightest bulbs gang.

I am glad I live in a bubble in D.C. No one puts up any signs in my neighborhood.

No, what’s offensive, at least to me, is the swearing😬

I personally think it is violent and scary but I am willing to agree that they are allowed to like it. When you become a little less narrow-minded let us know and then we can all share conversations about things we agree with and things we don't. Right now you're not going to be able to hack it.

I think you misunderstand, or maybe I miscommunicated. They are absolutely allowed to like ice hockey. I may even agree with them! But using that image/sign/style that is so clearly tied to human rights and BLM is really just in poor taste, and it reflects badly on people who display it, and it diminishes their message in the end. There are so many ways to convey their message, and this way makes them look stupid and inconsiderate and at worst, it makes them look like they're disrespecting a movement by co-opting an icon. Like appropriation, in a sense. If someone is dug into conservatism or MAGA my point will go directly over their head, but *that* is my point.

I agree with you. It's a very tone deaf reaction and I would look down on that person. Also indoor hockey isn't safe. Studies have shown the virus lingers at about 4' in the cold environments.

The posters here understand this but they don't care. They refuse to open their eyes and see how devastating racism has been in this country and how black people's lives are affected so it's easy for them to make fun and trivialize important issues. They believe they are not racist. We know the truth. You won't convince them of anything.

Serious question: is this sign diminishing the “human rights/BLM” messaging by making it abundantly and absurdly clear that putting up a SIGN is worth absolutely NOTHING in terms of advancing human rights, racial equity, whatever you and your neighbors *pretend* you care about?

This sign isn’t making a mockery of any movement- it is making a mockery of YOUR ridiculous signs...

Ralph David Abernathy did acknowledge in his 1989 autobiography, And the Walls Came Tumbling Down, that Martin Luther King engaged in extramarital affairs (evidence of which was sometimes recorded by the FBI through hotel room bugs)

MLK was an amazing civil rights leader and had a huge positive impact on this country. He wasn't perfect though, but I think MLK still deserves to be recognized for all the great things he did. That's why I have an issue with going back to every hero and digging up some bad thing on their past and renouncing them. I'm sure just about every important figure did some bad stuff too, but let's evaluate if the good outweighs the bad.

I think you’re missing the point of both signs, so I’m not sure how to respond to this.

And because we have swung to this all-or-nothing view, we’re having critical race theory shoved down our throats.

The original signs were a cloying barfest. They invite imitation and parody, sorry.
