Yes, the sign is not just in incredibly poor taste, but also racist. It pokes fun at BLM by co-opting language that allies use to describe their allyship. Also, hockey (and it’s summer counterpart lacrosse) are the two sports that are the ultimate embodiment of not just toxic masculinity but also white privilege.
|
Which sports aren't the embodiment of white privilege then? What privilege do the other sports embody? |

BLM's logo and color scheme was taken from the "Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics" movement:

| They're everywhere, I'm not particularly "woke," and I totally find them annoying and borderline offensive. |
The yard signs this post refers to are a different thing. |
| I saw it too and found it tone deaf. Rolled my eyes and drove on. |
| OP they are gross and Trumpy, but what else would you expect from hockey parents? |
I haven’t seen the sign and it does sound tone-deaf. The kids are excited - while rinks have been open this is the first time in a year that the full squad can be on ice at same time. My DD feels euphoric at being with her teammates but wouldn’t like to be associated with diluting the BLM message: period. |
What team? Many teams have been practicing together all or most of the season. |
Ohhhhh what a ridiculous swipe. My DD made me promise to leave the country if *rump won - and I’d say back when we could be in-person - I found that ice hockey parents are pretty much like every other MoCo sports parents - vast majority of us never trumpers - but obvi you have some odd view |
+1 I saw it too and found it tone deaf and not very clever. Trying too hard to be funny. “In this house we believe that ice is cold.” Unoriginal. |
+2 "hockey sticks are bent" Good one!
|
Not a travel team so maybe rules different but my DD team has MoCo limitations of no more than 10 on ice including coach until this weekend. They had one game but this was more a scrimmage and not in MoCo rink. |
| Why am I supposed to feel offended by the sign? |
If you don't get it, you don't get it.
