Sign is brilliant.

Haven't we used imitation for bumper stickers and yards signs for years.

Why is the BLM language sacrosanct. Doesn't everybody know that it was copies as well?

Probably like any good advertising, they probably imitated simply to get us to talk about it.

The original signs and the silly bumper stickers you cite are on your personal property. Keep your cynical boosterism out of the highway median please. If you want a hockey sign there, fine put one that just advertises youth hockey in a straightforward way. Let’s not use public space to mock each other’s beliefs in the name of supposedly supporting youth sports.

Ok so if I put up a sign saying that in this house we believe men are men and women are women, you’re good with that? How about a reminder that there are only two genders? Just checking your thought process PP

Then ban all median signs. You can't like all of one groups signs but then say another group can't post because you...don't like them.

Complainers in this thread are why neighborhood associations have such draconian rules about paint colors and flags etc.

I saw that sign on Bradley Blvd too. Not offensive at all.

You have perfectly captured how I feel about people like you and OP.

Anonymous wrote:I was on River Road today and saw a median sign that was colorful words on a black background in the style of “In this house: Black Lives Matter, love is love, etc...” but it was about opening indoor rinks for hockey and said something like “In this house we believe: hockey indoors is safe, kids need to play, etc...”.

CHRIST.

It was so tone deaf: a very clear take on the rainbow yard sign about human rights, but for hockey!!!I don’t often drive that route and haven’t seen these signs before. Is this a prevalent thing? It was astonishingly icky and beyond offensive!

Sense of humor cannot be created. Either you have it or you don’t. And you don’t.

You realize, don’t you, that churches have had Black Lives Matter signs defaced on their property? Repeatedly. I don’t like median signs in general. I tolerate them. When they’re factual they’re tolerable. Keeping them factual and straightforward helps maintain community. This form of boosterism reveals so much about the values of the ice hockey community. The fact that they’re still up months later reveals a lot about Bethesda.

What does "Science is real" even mean?

And I am a scientist...

I'd like to know more about the "Love is Love" line. Will they be adding a 1=1 next?

My vote is for ‘the sky is blue’

I personally think it is violent and scary but I am willing to agree that they are allowed to like it. When you become a little less narrow-minded let us know and then we can all share conversations about things we agree with and things we don't. Right now you're not going to be able to hack it.

I think you misunderstand, or maybe I miscommunicated. They are absolutely allowed to like ice hockey. I may even agree with them! But using that image/sign/style that is so clearly tied to human rights and BLM is really just in poor taste, and it reflects badly on people who display it, and it diminishes their message in the end. There are so many ways to convey their message, and this way makes them look stupid and inconsiderate and at worst, it makes them look like they're disrespecting a movement by co-opting an icon. Like appropriation, in a sense. If someone is dug into conservatism or MAGA my point will go directly over their head, but *that* is my point.

And a poor point it is

+1 I saw it too and found it tone deaf and not very clever. Trying too hard to be funny. “In this house we believe that ice is cold.” Unoriginal.

"hockey sticks are bent"
Good one!

Keep it up and you will go to H-E-double hockey sticks

My favorite are t-shirts used by a lawn service. On the front are sketched of men wearing hats labeled Manuel and Jose pushing mowers in front of a sketch of a big house. On the back is a sketch of the same men walking toward what looks like a run down apartment building with a sign saying stay off the grass in Spanish.

To me that represents the DNV more than the silly signs

Scientist, too

These signs were all over by the ice rink on Gude.

I’m guessing lots of people were offended because they were ALL taken down in two weeks.

I thought they were creative and funny. And I don’t even have a kid who ice skates, let alone plays hockey.

“Kindness is everything”

Unless you disagree with me, apparently.

LOL

Spot on! The people with these signs up in my Aspen Hill neighborhood are often some of the most miserable people I have ever met. And this describes them to a tee. Completely intolerant of any views that run contrary to their own.

Also a scientist and I find that puzzling. I have an undergrad and a grad degree in a science field.

Anyone who thinks ‘science is real’ knows that science is fluid and changes constantly. Studies are constantly being done to prove and disprove hypothesis. What scientist believed one hundred years ago is completely different than what scientists believe now.
