Is it a marriage red flag when a couple only has one child? One daughter?

Welcome to the US and welcome to the 21st century.

Male heir carries the surname in the US as well. Daughters marry into other families, sons carry on the family legacy.

Not always. My children all have my last name.

A marriage red flag? As if their marriage is in trouble because they had an amazing child and decided one perfect child was enough?????

I think you are a marriage red flag.

Unless you have a unique last name, like Zinkleberry, and there are NO OTHER Zinkleberries in the US, your last name actually means very little.

I don't agree with what this poster is implying (and I have one child - a girl - and am in a happy marriage), but I also don't think that many of the comments on here (directed toward the OP) are nice. Why is everyone on DCUM so mean? Is it that difficult to be nice on an anonymous Internet forum where you can be as mean as possible?

WTF OP.
My husband and I never had kids. Please tell me what red flags you see.

What??? You are extremely weird, and sexist on top of that.

I hope you have NO daughters. Zero

Sadly these kinds of people have lived here for generations, they’re all over the south, Midwest and scattered throughout the rest of the country. I agree with you though, I wish they would leave.

I don’t know. Can you imagine the type of man OP would raise? ??? One can hope her son would grow up to realize what psycho his parents are, but there’s always the chance he drinks the koolaid and then there’s one more incel out there.

Maybe, let’s hope OP has fertility problems and gets rejected from all adoption agencies? That’s kinder to the human race.

Who said that OP is an immigrant? That's quite the assumption. Just as bad as OPs.

Couples who divorce have two or three kids. The one(s) they had while love and the one to try to save the marriage.

My husband is an immigrant and we have been married for ten years. We also have an only child that is female. OP and the immigration poster are clueless.

Exactly. I'm an immigrant as well and have only one child.

Here's something to consider, OP. My sister and her husband only have 1 kid, a girl. They'll never have anymore children even if they wanted to because my BIL has an aggressive form of leukemia that he has been fighting since my niece was 6 months old. She's 7 years old now. I hope nobody judges them and assumes the worst, you don't know what's happening in real life, and it's none of your business.

I can't imagine what you think about those who choose not to have kids at all (or can't).

I grew up in the south, have no brothers and have one daughter. My last name ended with my sisters and me as our father was an only child. Go troll another thread. I’ll think of you when I vote for Trump.
