Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

The problem is, there is no procedure in place for quarantining or treating any passengers they find with the virus--they would be released into the USA and told to see a doctor, which doesn't make all the hysteria seem necessary.

You are in denial. Do you know anything about the Chinese government? The numbers they are releasing do not reflect reality. This is a country that spends disinformation every single day. Spend a few months there. You’ll come back with a deep appreciation for the US. Despite our flaws, we aren’t as fuked up as China. They are lying. Again.

While I agree China is not going to be upfront about actual numbers. And it's already here, it will spread.

We will be lied to from our current head of the country. Given he just said our military guys had "headaches". It's not like we are not lied to from the top on every given day.

But as usual FOX news trying to create hysteria. That helps no one.

Bat Soup could be linked to Coronavirus.

I don’t know but I read at the particular animal market in question, there was a stand selling bats, snakes (the type in question as possibly being infected), live wolf puppies and koalas!

This feels more like the Stand than World War Z.

Ten times the number China is handing us

Ebola came from bats. Nasty. Hope the virus weakens during human transmission as often the case

Wash your hands, people. That's really all you can do, but it works.

The end of Contagion shows how a bat can transmit a disease to a human. You don't need to get bitten by a bat. It is pretty interesting and I never thought it could work this way, but it looks like this may be what might have happened in the Wuhan market.

We have the school officials making these decisions. Let that sink in for a bit.

And will tour local cultural and tourist sites!?? WTF?? So they'll be wandering on metro -- we don't want that students in that school and their families to be affected, but the millions of people commuting by metro daily -- sure . . . .

^^It should be illegal to eat these types of animals. Sickening that it's not.

You can't lock everyone up who's been through that area, nor can you find everyone who's been through that area. What do you propose?

Keep them in the hotel with video games until they are scheduled to depart in a week and a half? If it's not safe enough for them to be at the school or to live with the host families, then why exactly is it safe for them to be out in the community, on metro, in restaurants etc? This screams of -- NOT IN OUR SCHOOL -- we don't want to put OUR kids at risk, but sure we don't care if they're inflicted on others. Uh -- you were the ones who invited them + didn't cancel the invite when this thing got going . . . .

Well you really have to recognize the benefits of a strong authoritarian government when you see this kind of thing in China. They just locked down two cities and canceled all chinese new year celebrations in beijing. There will be special procedures to travel to and from those regions. I wouldn't be surprised if the merchants selling the wild meat in the Wuhan market are in reeducation camps as I write this. Compare this to America where our sissy government begs and pleads with sick people not to travel. We can't even get kids to get vaccinated lol!

Yeah, no. Quarantine a city of 11 million people? Can you imagine?

It's impossible, "strong authoritarian government" or not.

On who's authority are you going to lock them up? Fairfax is just caving to parent pressure, but the US gov't isn't quarantining anyone.

The virus has already spread outside of China, let alone Wuhan.
