Bat Soup could be linked to Coronavirus.

I don’t know but I read at the particular animal market in question, there was a stand selling bats, snakes (the type in question as possibly being infected), live wolf puppies and koalas!

^^It should be illegal to eat these types of animals. Sickening that it's not.

Which types should be illegal? How do you differentiate between which types of animals are illegal and which types not?

They just locked down two cities and canceled all chinese new year celebrations in beijing. There will be special procedures to travel to and from those regions. I wouldn't be surprised if the merchants selling the wild meat in the Wuhan market are in reeducation camps as I write this. Compare this to America where our sissy government begs and pleads with sick people not to travel. We can't even get kids to get vaccinated lol!

+100000. And I think the quarantines are up to 6-7 cities. Here we’d be screaming RACE or profiling or something and be filing lawsuits.

We have a robust public health system in this country that works (and does include the power to quarantine when necessary). Not absurd "quarantines" of millions of people.

I ate bat curry several times in the Seychelles. It is a speciality there, and quite delicious, if a little bony.

If you are worried about animal to human transmission, you should ban pork. Pigs are much more closely related to us and a much more important vector of disease.

It is too late to contain. Looks like over 10,000 cases already, including in Saudi Arabia, Scotland etc.

The WHO Emergency Committee declines to declare it a global public health emergency - half of the committee believes it too early.

Google what they sell in these markets--it's pretty clear there are a lot of animals that should not be sold to be eaten. These are "wet markets" where they sell live animals...seems pretty risky practice to me.

No one is selling bats and snakes in public markets in America.

Freedom of information and government transparency is the better pandemic fighting tool than authoritarianism. You know that doo-doo just hit the fan when the Chinese government have to publicize these drastic actions without going under the radar. Rumors swirling in Chinese social media that they should have closed down the city on 1/18 but had to wait for the annual government meeting to conclude in Wuhan to publicize the news. Reports are saying that over 900 thousand people have left Wuhan during that period between 1/18 and 1/22. Hospitals in Wuhan has slotted 5,600 capacity for this outbreak, but reports coming in that the number is expected (if not already) to hit 6,000 in Wuhan alone. The Chinese government tried to cover up the news earlier last year and it just blew up not realizing that it might be something more serious than SARS. They're playing catch up at this point.

you're being hysterical.

The funny thing is there is more legal/national security implication to impose a China ban than the previous one in 2017....

Here we go...

Fasten you’re seatbelts.

Read “The Coming Plague”.

It’s long been hypothesized that it will be a virus or bacteria that takes the population down vs a nuclear weapon.

I’m a microbiologist/immunologist and viruses are some scary sh@t. Transmission is just too easy for this type of virus, unlike Ebola.
