CNBC is reporting a traveler from China has tested positive for the new Wuhan coronavirus that has killed 6 so far an infected nearly 300.

And the 300 number includes only those that the Chinese government is willing to report.... |
Would not recommend anyone read the beginning of World War Z. Just sayin'.
OR maybe it's Captain Tripps! |
Well 6 deaths out of 300 infected seems better than MERS which kills 40% of those infected. Am I reading that right? |
Here we go.... |
MERS mortality rate is 35% but most feel that is artificially too high as many mild cases of MERS are being diagnosed as something else or missed entirely. Since China was able to get the DNA profile of this virus so quickly they are identifying cases more rapidly than they did during MERS. |
I read somewhere that it was closer to 1000. |
Well that is good at least. |
This is not good. |
Yeah, relying on Chinese government reporting is a joke. |
No, in World War Z I believe the immune compromised were immune to the zombie virus. I think Contagion is more relevant here, where Gywneth Paltrow brings back the virus from Hong Kong. |
. But this is highly contagious |
Hong Kong and UK studies, based primarily on statistical models, estimate that the total number of infected should be around 1000-1700 based on studies of previous viruses/people's transportation habits, etc. |
We don't know yet how contagious. We do have confirmation that it is moving human-to-human, but is it airborne or something like that? Just don't know yet. |
Death rate unknown and may well increase - hundreds are still in the hospital, many with severe illness or critically ill. Also likely many many milder cases undiagnosed. Very scary - it's a coronavirus close to SARS. I doubt they will be able to contain it as it appears to be spreading all over. |
