| Since the founding of the Nation, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) have been a source of inspirational discoveries and transformative technological advances, helping the United States develop the world’s most competitive economy and preserving peace through strength. The pace of innovation is accelerating globally, and with it the competition for scientific and technical talent. Now more than ever the innovation capacity of the United States—and its prosperity and security—depends on an effective and inclusive STEM education ecosystem. Individual success in the 21st century economy is also increasingly dependent on STEM literacy; simply to function as an informed consumer and citizen in a world of increasingly sophisticated technology requires the ability to use digital devices and STEM skills such as evidence-based reasoning |
I believe that 'winning international math competition' is all that matters to PP. And the entire point of 'winning international math competition' is to get into Harvard. All snark aside, I don't know why you guys are wasting time on that unhinged poster. She's obviously fresh from the boat -- and it's not just the language -- and looking to unleash her insecurities on whoever agrees to listen. Ugh. |

We're zoned for Blair in South Western SS but are actually closer to BCC. One of my close friend's kids attend Walter Johnson but they're much closer to Wheaton. There are countless examples like this now. |
| Yes. My child attends Blair which is the closest high school to us but we are zoned for Einstein. We are also closer to Northwood than we are to Einstein. |
| People seem to only care about their property values. It’s not actually about what is best for their children. |
Ha. It has nothing to do with school’s resources. It’s been proven over and over again. For example , in our area for a black failing schools they built a state of the art new building with fancy computer labs and fancy robotics lab, and hired more teachers. Guess what? They can’t get kids to come to those labs. There is maybe 1-2 people in the lab because they’re not interested. And the school is still failing. Because it starts at home. And there are so many examples like these. |
It’s not about the color. I don’t want my A student to mingle with your D students because what can your kid teach my kid? How to smoke pot and play video games? |
The thing that people don’t seem to understand is that if the rezoning happens whole neighborhoods will be changing schools. Those changes will impact how the school is viewed. So if a big chunk of current WJ neighborhoods move to Einstein, Einstein will be perceived differently. The new perception (not the current one) could have an impact on house prices. And BTW not all W parents are against this. My kids have suffered due to the overcrowding, I think the need to address this systematically has been ignored. Boundaries need to be re-drawn. I, like many, don’t want my kid on the bus an excessive amount time, otherwise I’m open to changes. |
Nobody wants their kid on the bus an excessive amount of time. |
How to live in a world that includes all kinds of people? |
There are currently kids on the bus for an excessive amount of time. I don’t think that MCPS would make it worse. |
