41 years old. Spanked with bare hands by my dad and the wooden spoon/slipper /face slap by my mom. The last time my dad spanked me, I was 6 or 7 and it caused an injury that required medical attention (I don't want to get too specific, but think along the lines of broken teeth). I remember my parents being on edge about it, because obviously everyone, including the medical professionals, wanted to know how it happened. Both of them told everyone I was horsing around with my brother and fell down. I think they repeated this so often that they started believing it, although my brother and I both remember the incident. Somehow the injury came up in conversation a few years ago in front of other family members and I said what really happened and my mom was horrified. I will say I was a difficult child and can see why my parents lost their tempers with me. We have a good relationship now although they're in denial about a lot of stuff that happened early on.

Hit at school (private, secular) with a ruler. All kids at the private school could be paddled at the principals office if the offense was bad enough, unless the parents opted out. By high school only the boys were spanked with a paddle if they did something wrong. Most parents opted in and considered this a plus of private school.

I went to a private secular school. They did not hit students. The threat "if you misbehave we will throw you out and you'll have to go to public school" was enough to keep most misbehavior in check.

It just didn't really work for me and I think my parents realized that I could take a beating and not change and they didn't want to abuse me. I got old enough that I started behaving and not having to have the last word. I was the youngest. My oldest sister got spanked a couple times- she is very rulesy. My brother maybe a few more because he was a boy/tried more things. I got it the most because I was always up to something/not sympathizing with others when it came to my actions. Terrifyingly my youngest is the same so I know to not go there with beatings or I might not stop.

Another child of a Korean immigrant here. My mother spanked the shit out of me. Sometimes she’s use a bamboo stick too if we whined about practicing piano and violin.
