38, yes. But I have no memory of the majority of my spankings because they happened when I was very young. When I was older, I was always threatened with "I'm going to tell your father." I can recall being spanked with a belt by my father once when my mom told him I needed it. He didn't ask her what it was for, just administered the punishment.

I have been spanked and I spank my kids but I do not believe in spanking.
My parents were very loving and supportive and rarely spanked me or my siblings. All our spankings were for really selfish and terrible actions on our part, when we should have known better. I have raised my kids similarly. I probably have spanked them only a handful of times. I think that spanking is a very effective tool in parenting, but the potential for it to be abused is extremely high. Many parents spank because they do not want to give the children attention and care. You cannot spank little kids, because they do not have the comprehension to make the correct decisions.

40, and yes. Many of the incidents I remember. I don’t believe I was physically abused though. I love my parents and we are close. FWIW, I’m African-American.

My parents were hypocrites who told friends and neighbors that they didn’t believe in spanking but when angry thought nothing of slapping and extreme verbal abuse. And they hit each other and thought it was perfectly normal for siblings to fight physically. I would rather have been spanked in some rational manner.

41, don’t recall any spanking but I assume I was because of other forms of punishments. My sister and I got slapped in the face/on the head multiple times (slaps could come in series) and the slapping sessions would sometimes be followed by our mother forcing us to the bathtub by pulling/grabbing our hair and giving us a cold shower on the head because ... surprise, we were “hysterical.”

42, yes I was. I had a younger brother and managed to protect him, though. When I was 13 my mom was spanking my hysterical crying little brother and I picked up the phone and said I was dialing child services if she didn't stop. She could tell I was serious and never did it again. I don't spank.
