| How much do YNT camp spots cost? |
How many prospects has this scout placed on the NT? Just curious |
What matters is how many are placed on the NTC, as that is how the YNTs are formed. |
What matters is how many have made it all the way, actually. If this scout is placing undeserved, underperforming players into the pool that don't pan out, someone will notice and make adjustments. They aren't going to protect a nepotist who doesn't produce in her primary role. |
No, if you can't get to the NTCs, you can't make it all the way. It's a process. |
Yes, and there is also a review process that looks at who is being injected into the system and how they fair. Once again, if the local scout is just putting through unqualified friends, sisters, and relatives, as suggested by other posters (you?) then that process will catch the abnormally low proficiency rates coming from her placements. |
The problem is bigger than her, which is why it will continue. |
| I'm a parent of younger players. Not at the YNTC age. What is the point of it? Is it just an extra training session? Is there some sort of tryout during it where kids move to another stage? And are you paying to go there? If you are paying it kind of seems to make it a little bit less special... |
Interesting thought, but I’m not a fan of the nepotism conspiracy theory around NTCs, myself |
NTCs are free. The concept is to take the better players in an area, put them together and give them extra training. It is also the pool the YNT is pulled from. |

It matters considerably. There are 2 girls from MYS that are now on the US Soccer National Teams from when her DD played at McLean. If she gave advantage to that team then, that would explain why MYS has more players on the YNT than any other club currently. You can debate why but MYS has the most current YNT from this area, that is a fact. Her DD played at MYS when these girls were selected, that is a fact. She was a scout then, that is a fact.
Now the her DD plays for FCV, suddenly FCV players are getting the lions share of invites, including her DD. See a pattern here? It's a major problem of biased invites along with nepotism. |
I know! Crazy how DA kids are getting scouted over ECNL kids now. |
It's more specific than that. FCV players are being scouted over every other club now that her DD plays there. Before McLean Youth Soccer was scouted over every other club when her DD played there. |
It’s actually much simpler than that. MYS was the destination club for top elite players back when ECNL was the only game in town. Now with DA, FCV has taken that role, and MYS has diminished. The scout recognized the shift and moved her kid to DA, because she also wants what’s best for her kid. US Soccer wants top kids to play in DA. A few other top kids moved as well. Simple and not nefarious. Sorry it doesn’t suit your wants |
Makes sense. The destination club happens to be where her DD plays. DD is one of the top players in the area, along with her friends that moved. Therefore they go to NTCs. We know this because Mom gets to decide. Simple and makes sense. |
