How long will the shutdown last?

Democrats are making proposals and the Republicans are starting to feel the heat for being obstructionist.

The House, with its new Democratic majority, passed two bills on Thursday night to reopen the government — one major spending bill to fund most shuttered departments and agencies through Sept. 30 and a stop-gap measure to restart the Department of Homeland Security for a few weeks — without funding for a border wall.

The measures are likely to go nowhere for now, but they will raise pressure on Republicans to come to the negotiating table. Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado and Susan Collins of Maine, two of the most endangered Republicans up for re-election in 2020, said they want a vote.

Five House Republicans crossed over and voted for these bills.

Susan Collins can KMA. She’ll never get re elected after voting for Kavanaugh & all the other crap she’s pulled.

You mean not falling for the BS from the 35 year old revenge drama?

If we don't have the money to properly fund veterans health care or feed kids breakfast at school in the morning (I don't care who their parents are) and I can't afford to go to the doctor (please don't insert the illegal immigrants dog whistle here because it has nothing to do with why I can't afford healthcare) I certainly cannot see how we can afford to build a large structure that will be obsolete in five years.

Why are we feeding kids breakfast at school. We had lunch, but now breakfast and lunch is the new standard? Well, who is paying for that?

We have 300,000 illegal aliens jumping the border to the south every year. That's NOT free; there are costs associated with that bad behavior, much more than several billion to build the wall where it's needed.

These are apprehensions:

Don’t forget the weekend food backpacks that the PTA is guilted into providing for FARMs kids. Only problems is the moms usually eat the food or sell it for stiff not covered by SNAP

You are an ass. If you actually studied poverty you would find mothers are the ones more likely to go without food in the family. Fathers are the selfish ones, which is why international aid often gives money to women in households because it ensures that children are fed and a little of the money gets reinvested into the community. Men tend to blow the money on their needs. Don’t you have an Incel board to post on?!

To paraphrase Obama, you want the government to police every Western Union and Paypal deposit?

No. Do you have police standing at the checkout while you are buying groceries to ensure you pay taxes on the purchase? Of course not. Don't be obtuse. These transactions should be taxed like every other...just increase the tax and set aside that money for border wall and security.

The lines at Walmart and grocery stores customer service are always really long because people are waiting to send money out of the country.

So much winning.

By Saturday, the federal government will have been shut down for two weeks, a full pay cycle for federal workers. If the shutdown lasts through Monday, it will surpass the one of 2013, and if it lasts beyond the following Saturday, it will be the longest shutdown in United States history. Politicians have said they were hopeful that the standoff could be over in a matter of “days and weeks,” a reassurance that rang hollow to hundreds of thousands of federal workers who were not getting paid.

“They have to realize that this affects everyday people,” said Ray Coleman Jr., a corrections officer who teaches G.E.D. classes at a federal prison in Florida and is president of his local union. “It affects the boots on the ground. To me, it’s like a political chess game that they’re playing, and we seem to be pawns.”

Tax how? There is a tax on all groceries. That’s easy. But taxing all remittances to Mexico? How to they tax it if I go to the bank and get a cashiers check addressed to random person A and mail it? If someone sets up a bank account in a third country where I send money. How exactly do you police Apple apay? PayPal?

Please enlighten us, since you know so much.

Trump had all three branches. Now federal CO’s are unpaid. The GOP and Bannonites and foreign trolls all laugh.

The poster who said Trump has 800,000 hostages and will kill them all was right. He doesn’t care about their lives at all. He literally would feel nothing if ultimately unpaid feds show a higher temporary rate of medical distress tied to financial strain.

True. His base is already rejoicing at the thought of all these people going without pay.

Trump has to drag out the chaos to try and save himself and maybe his favorite kid and SIL. No more no less. Literally no other life has value to him including FLOTUS, his minor son, his sons and most of his grandkids.

Additionally they would want to tax only remittances to Mexico. How do you accomplish that? Esp. since US law prohibits discrimination on the basis of country of origin. There's are dozens of other ways besides Western Union to send money to another country, all done online.

Tax all remittances then. Even better,

Online transactions are not exempt from taxes. Even when you use PayPal, you are paying them a fee. Just add another that would go to taxes.

1. It’s not a service
2. How do they know it’s ultimate destination is Mexico?

So when my friend— a white American— buys 4 concert tickets and I— a white American— PayPal him my half of the cost, I should pay an additionalWall tax? How is that Mexico paying?

I am talking about weekend food provided to FARMS kids, not international aid. We have been specifically told not to put good tasting food in the packs because it is eaten by moms or stronger older kids who take it from elementary kids or sold. I am providing anecdotal info not peer reviewed studies.

The last government shutdown was over $3.4B for healthcare. The GOP said it was too expensive and we didn't have the money. So if we couldn't afford $3.4 for healthcare, how is it we can afford $5B for a wall?
