Which is why some landlords are choosing to rent properties on Airbnb, rather than under lease. Some DC Council members and self-styled housing social justice advocates decry this. But property owners know that it's easier to dislodge a roach infestation than a holdover tenant in DC. |
| Growing up, MD was ahead of Northern Va on most indices. That is no longer the case. VA has had better recent record of attracting large companies, increasing its tax base and providing safer neighborhoods for its residents. |
You know I've noticed barring an outright homicide or a high profile robbery, the MPD doesn't really give a damn about "lesser" crimes. |
Yes in fact that's exactly what they do, "career" criminals know better than to cross into VA because if they are caught in VA...their careers are pretty much over. VA in general does enjoy throwing the book at repeat offenders. |
I don't understand why people think they can dress/groom any way they want and not be 'profiled'. I had two little kids and was house hunting on a rainy day - was dressed in sweats - and a realtor at a new home community looked me up and down and refused to take me through the model because I didn't look like I could afford it. Her loss - we wanted to buy two lots. I was most certainly profiled, and have been in the past many times, as has my husband. We are tech people and don't play the same 'games' DC metro people do. |
Fairfax county is indeed starting to go down that path. I see it and want OUT. Husband is holding strong. Probably will break us up. |
Yeah I don’t understand it either. I mean what makes a Muslim wearing a hijab or a Sikh wearing a turban think they can walk around like that? They bring profiling and prejudice on themselves. What makes a woman think she can walk around displaying her cleavage? She brings profiling and harassment on herself. What makes a homosexual teen think he can walk around with feminine mannerisms? He brings profiling and bullying upon himself. And why do blacks and Latinos think they can walk around with anything other than business professional attire on and not be profiled? They bring suspicions on themselves. |
OP here. Agreed. No excuse for profiling. However this is not the topic. Crime in not low in NOVA because cops profile (at least no more\less than DC or MD). Cops do a good job here and the community works with them. And the courts do their job. Not sure why the rest of the area does not. As a PP pointed out this has long term economic consequences for MD primarily. Dc with crime will still be ok due to location. |
Maybe in your ill-informed world. |
I'm not saying that it's OK for your kid to be profiled, but I rarely see any professional (not NFL lol) black males with dreadlocks. And all his friends having dreads doesn't help the situation. Do they "sag" also? People judge you based on how you look. I'm sure you do the same. |
(In other words foreigners, minorities, gays, and non-Christians bring harassment, prejudice, bullying, and discrimination on themselves by not aligning with white social norms. Thanks for putting it so gently. |
We're a country based on British-Judeo-Christian values. If that's not your thing, then perhaps you should find a country that is more to your liking. Like Zimbabwe?!
|
Foreigner here kindly asking you to drop the typical only-in-America bs. |
| Virginia was a red state until recently . The crime rate will pick up at an exponential rate. Red states are safer due to common sense . Get out of Virginia while you can still trick people into buying your house . |
It's much easier to get from D.C. to MD and back. It's much harder to get to VA from D.C. The river is a good barrier. Look at the crime in NW DC compared to the rest of D.C. Rock Creek park works as an effective barrier as well. |
