OP here. Not a trick question. Plenty of poor people in Woodbridge and geographic demographics do not explain why someone from MD or DC would not just cross the bridge and commit crimes in VA. in fact they routinely do between DC and MD.

Woodbridge is a pit of disgustingness and foul crimes - thanks for the reminder.

Woodbridge isn’t paradise or anything, but a pit of disgustingness and foul crimes? You must live a sheltered life.

Maryland and DC (until recently) do not.

Other states with large cities and diverse populations, such as Texas, Georgia and Florida have similar demographics as the DC area, but less of the type of robbery crime that is typically committed in states where people aren't allowed to carry a gun for self defense.

It's really not that big of a mystery. Criminals aren't stupid. They understand things like this. Pulling a knife or gun on someone in Georgetown will get you their wallet, cel phone, or car. Pulling a gun on someone 1/2 a mile away in Roslyn might get you killed. They know this.

No. Most of these guys have guns. Your gun does not scare them. Violent crime in Atlanta is absolutely terrible. That's Georgia. Miami? No thank you. Young black guys are going to stick out in Roslyn. They really aren't stupid. It is not unusual to see groups of young black guys in Georgetown. It is unusual in Arlington. I have a young black son that i am sure you would profile. He hangs out in Georgetown, not Roslyn. VA is boring. No one's interested.

Sounds like you're racist if you don't think your black son "fits in' in Arlington

Woodbridge is comparable demographically to some areas of PG. Yet reports for overall homicde, robberies, home invasions and similar violent crimes are considerably lower in Woodbridge than in similar parts of PG.

Why?

What's the ONE obvious difference between the two jurisdictions?

VA is a concealed carry state. Maryland doesn't permit carry.

Yes this.

Commit a crime in Arlington, and you won't be getting bail unless it's very minor.

And sadly, when there is a gas station robbery or a armed robbery of someone on the street in arlington, suspects are usually black males.

Aren't there more Metro stops in poorer neighborhoods in MD than in VA?

Yes. There's no public transport in Woodbridge, VA.

Ultimately, a criminal knows that in VA, if he commits the ultimate crime, he may get the ultimate penalty. If he commits murder on the other end of the Key Bridge, there are several DC Council Members who will make excuses for him.

No what’s sad is that the PP’s son is going to get profiled for having the audacity to hang out in Georgetown. Free country - I think not.

Plenty of brown, black, white people in Alexandria and Arlington. I don't buy this argument. NOVA PDs don't profile minorities any more or less than DC or MD.

Also I see how H and U streets are more exciting to teenagers but Bethesda and Silver Spring is just as 'boring' as Arlington and Alexandria. but the crime rates are higher in MD. I agree with much better and effective law enforcement and courts in NOVA.

In fact MD and DC have consistently fallen behind NOVA in recent years in creating safe neighborhoods.

I live in dc and completely agree that the justice system is kind of a joke. Criminals get treated very differently in dc.

Woman please. I've seen my son get profiled a ton all over town. If he and his friends where hanging out in Arlington - they all have dreadlocks - they would get profiled. Period!

Are you guys on crack? When I am in Arlington, I don't see a bunch of black people. I'm black. I really don't. If I am in Old Town Alexandria I also don't see a bunch of black people. Especially groups of black boys. They would stand out like sore thumbs.

I can't believe you actually think this is a deterrent. It isn't. They just don't like VA.
