i assume that john's "activities" over the weekend that kate was referring to in her statement have something to do with his potentially frittering away assests. sounds like she wanted to stop that, at least temporarily.

Even if each kid spends $40k for 4 years to go to school, they would only touch about $1.28m of the principal.

once the kids are gone -- I think they still have PLENTY to live on.

Then how did Britney almost fritter away $100 million? And Lindsay Lohan as well - and many other child stars who had millions and millions - they don't know what they are doing and the money disappears. They don't sit back and have a reasonable lifestyle.

People don't know basic concepts about money. Yes, anyone with any sense could live very happily for the rest of their lives on 10 million - but a poster just mentioned Jon is hunting for a very expensive condo in Vegas - Trump Towers. He will likely gamble it all away. Already he is going off to bars and picking up young women. I'm just not thinking this guy will do what is right. I hope I'm wrong, because I do think the kids are adorable, and they deserve better.

Easy come easy go.

Real people like most posters here would have to work their asses off to make millions. If you have to work hard, using your intellect, muscle, and make great sacrifices then you will not squander your money.

look, it isn't just about them. It is about all these people who have now decided to make their living by trying to be "reality TV stars" They either have huge families and want to cash in or they are spoiled kids who go on reality TV so that they don't have to have real jobs. I'm just tired of the whole thing - it needs to come to an end. The Gosslins, Speidi, Paris Hilton...all of them. Tired of them and wish I DIDN'T have to know about their lives. I don't watch their shows, but apparently others do...so I have to keep seeing them on the news because apparently SOMEONE cares.

Actually, I'm more mad at the idiots who watch this garbage for entertainment who have created the culture that brought this trainwreck into our lives.

But with regards to them, I still contend they really should have thought about having eight kids in the first place. If you can't afford them without having to sell them to some TV network, don't have them - plain and simple.

did you miss the part where I said I don't watch their show or actively seek out information on them? You can't avoid the coverage on these people unless you live under a rock. what I know about them is from news coverage on other TV channels and the 50 bazillion magazine covers that you cannot avoid when you are on line at the grocery store.

I like to know what is going on in the world, so I watch the news and read the newspaper - unfortunately, THIS is considered news, so no matter how hard I try to avoid it all, I can't. Usually I walk away from the TV when they are on, but sometimes I am waiting on something like, oh, I don't know the weather for the day...and I hear it in the background.

Not to mention, this post is on a public message board...and everyone, even those who are appalled by these people and the whole outsized families on national TV phenomenon, is allowed to have an opinion.

Fine, I'm angry and I am to blame for these freaks...I should be tarred and feathered! But I think I am LESS to blame than those who go to see her speak, read her books and buy their DVDs. I mean, honestly, WHAT has this family really done of note other than pop out a litter? Perhaps you're upset with yourself for being so gullible as to continue to follow this trainwreck of our own making...

I hope if this goes to court, the parents are required to set aside some money from the show, book deals, whole franchisse in a trust for each child. Sort of like what parents of child stars are required to do.

I realize it's different since the whole family is a part of the show and books etc. (whereas a child star is the one doing the working) but without the kids there would be no franchise. So they should be entitled to some of the money when they reach adulthood.
