Jon and Kate - getting divorced

Anonymous
I can TOTALLY see why someone would go on TLC with some sort of freak story and make some money. I would do the same thing, but I would have stopped when we had made enough to have a decent nest egg and a home large enough, but not grand, to house my family with a low to nothing mortgage. I'm sure a few feature episodes would have done the trick. Now they are just addicted to the money and have captured their twisted lives for their children to watch on DVD the rest of their lives.

A beautiful thing about divorcing when your children are small is that they can hardly remember the divorce. Not these kids, the gory details will live on and on. I can't wait for 20 years and see how the kids turn out.

If Jon & Kate had cared about their children so much, they would have cut off filming when things started to slide downhill, or when after watching the episodes, they would have seen how dysfunction they were and gotten some help.

I don't even watch the show but I have seen the footage of kate spanking her child, denying one of them water before an interview, and all those photos of her on her blackberry when she is out with her children. I agree she should have stopped the show when they had some money, and maybe churned out a few books and agreed to a few specials as the children grew. People would not hate her and she would not be dependent on fame.

But I think it would be easy to get caught up. One more year and we'll stop, a few more months of traveling and appearances and I'll stop. She really does see this as a career. But why? People used to be interested to hear from her because she was a mom, a SAHM raising a bunch of kids, but now she is completely unrelateable and seems to have be so concerned with this "career." Who can relate to her life anymore? What SAHM or working mom can say, I want to tune in to see how Kate does it?

Of course they are getting divorced --- they hate each other and they're seeing other people --- that can't be good for any of the family members (parents and kids). Stop watching the show and maybe they'll stop the freak show and then the parents can try to create some sort of semblance of a healthy home environment and living arrangement for their kids out of the limelight.

I was thinking the same thing...and sure hope so for their kids' sake.

I am also really sad about the divorce, which seems from the show to be his choice. I do watch the show and am neither a hater nor a booster. I watch because my kids are the same age (I don't have as many!) and unfortunately sometimes our dynamics are the same. DH and I have been on the verge of divorce and come back from it--out of the spotlight, of course.

I really dislike how Jon has been portrayed as Kate's hen-pecked victim. I think it's especially childish to equate acting like a jerk, having an affair and leaving the marriage with "standing up on my own 2 feet".

Hopefully they can do some intensive counseling OFF CAMERA.

They chose to have 8 children. I wish a judge would step in and remind them of this and force them to take a year or two to live life off camera and see what happens. First of all these children need to have a bit more stability and normalcy in their lives before being faced with their parents divorce. Everything is all smiles for the children when free crooked houses and trips to the beach are taking place but what happens when it all stops. Eventually the kids will grow up, not be so cute and no one will have an interest in them, how will they cope then?

It's funny how public opinion has shifted on who is to blame. Up until last night's episode, it seemed that Kate was the villain in the relationship, even though Jon was the one suspected of having an affair. And now, Jon is to blame (for being immature) and people are more sympathetic to Kate for having to deal with a childish husband (which many of us can relate to).

They must be pulling in a chunk of change. John is rumored to be thinking about a place in Trump Tower in NY. Not bad for a SAHD.

I just really feel for the children. After seeing the TLC promo over the weekend, I decided I just can't watch this show anymore. Jon & Kate need to transition to PRIVATE lives, starting NOW. As numerous others have already said, it is a nightmare that this whole thing continues to be filmed and documented. I am of the belief that the emotional costs to the children of continuing this TV show are WAAAAAY outweighing the financial benefits at this point.

Both suck. You can see how each of their failings magnify the other's.

Yes, I was shocked that they weren't ending the show. I mean, your family is falling apart and you just found a way to keep the SHOW going? Ummm....maybe your priorities are all out of whack.

Society needs to stop glamorizing these freaks who pop out litters of children and start looking at them for what they are--selfish, ridiculous people. Limits need to be put on these medical procedures.

"maybe your priorities are all out of whack"

That's an understatement for those on reality tv shows by educated choice. All attention wh***s.
