Jon and Kate - getting divorced

$1 million each? Maybe $200K each after therapy.

Kate told her fertility doctors she wouldn't consider reduction before going through with treatment.

Sorry, that should be criminal.

If you don't believe in reduction, you should not use fertility treatments that can result in sextuplets. I mean really it is just as irresponsible as unprotected teenage sex--- more so, actually, because of the risks associated with multiple births.

There is zero difference between her and octo-mom.

When you read Kate's website, it is clear she pressured him into another pregnancy after the twins. And she is the one who was opposed to reduction. She is the criminal.

Apparently they are currently worth $10 million.

$10 million is really not that much.

Now don't get me wrong, we make around $140k a year and I feel like we do great, but think about it: they are worth $10 million. If they invest wisely, great, but if not, with 8 kids and neither of them willing to get a job after this (I am assuming but it certainly doesn't seem to me they are real interested in earning a living the old fashioned way after all of this) and if they continue this opulent lifestyle, honestly $10 million will not last them the rest of their lives.

Anonymous
invest wisely? They would need a miracle right now to make that money grow faster than inflation.

You are right, 10M between 2 divorced people and 8 children is not retirement money. Factor in the cost of healthcare and college and daily expenses, Kate better pray that those kids stay cute so she can turn them into little Lindsay Lohans.

i've only seen the show twice, but would their lifestyle be considered opulent?

10M

For arguement's sake, how much do you think it costs to support 2 divorced people and 8 children. Considering healthcare and upkeep and maintenance on their home and cars? Forget about college? Assuming the house is paid off

I'm guessing 150k/yr and that is being pretty frugal for 10 people and 2 households.

That would last 66 years. Given the rate of inflation, what is the real value of 150K/yr over 66 years?

How much would private health insurance cost on a family of 10? I know my DH parents pay 1000/mo for a family of 4 and they are in their 50s with teenagers. Is it 2k/mo for a family of 10?

Ummm...they are not being frugal. Kate has a personal trainer, security that travels with her everywhere, manicures and pedicures, she just went on a 2 week vacation at a resort in NC that supposedly cost thousands per day. Of course if they were normal people $10 million would be more than enough to live on, especially if one of them was willing to get a job that paid for health care.

But I think the posters' points above is that they are idiots and will likely not do this. The show, freebies, book deal, and speaking engagements will dry up and they will still be buying those ATV things and dirt bikes. They just don't seem like smart people. And I don't see Kate clippin' coupons after this either.

10 million is not alot if this is it but they say they do plan to resume the show in August.

The kid's college will run around $1.5 million and they are in private school now. Lets say the private tuition was 20K per kid plus nannies at say 50K that is $210,000 per year alone. The house is large and probably could cost around 60K a year with grounds upkeep, housekeepers, heating, maintenance, taxes, and insurance. I can't imagine what private health insurance for 10 people would cost. The security, vacations, and other items would double everything else. Once they start maintaining separate residences they will run through even more. The more money you have the more it costs to maintain what you have.

They live in rural PA. I can assure you that the private school tuition is NOT 20k per child. I would half that-at least. Also, nannies do not get paid 50k in rural PA. I also think the 60k in house upkeep is a bit high as well. I would half that as well.

Nannies who care for 8 children will make $50k, easy. True that tuition probably isn't as high as it is here, but it all depends on the school, it could be less than half, to three quarters of the cost. The house cost more than a million dollars, and they may have mortgaged it, so they could get the tax right offs. Mortgage alone could be $50k a year, then there is the yard work and other things mentioned by the first quoted poster.

For a family of this size, $10mil won't last as long as it would for a family of four.

I get such a kick out of the posters here who blame Jon for being immature, and accusing him at being at fault. He is probably just as much at fault as Kate is, but they are both to blame. There have been accusations of Kate having an affair with her bodyguard as well. I wouldn't doubt they were both off knocking boots with others. The money and the fame is too much for them to handle.

You forget the celebrity factor, all the challenges that come with paparazzi everywhere, etc. Absolutely any nannies they have would have to be professional and well paid, regardless of their current locale. I would actually guess they pay more than 50k year on nannies, especially after the divorce. Definitely if jon does in fact get a job as was briefly mentioned as a possibility (not likely i agree) on the show.

And don't forget Jon bought that condo in Utah plus he was looking at $3200 apartments in Trump Tower last weekend. The money won't last.

When black people have "too many" babies that they can't afford, people villify them as a major source of societal decay and as a drain on our precious government resources.

Apparently when married white people do so, we subsidize them to live better than we do by turning them into celebrities.

What a joke-- they are welfare parents with condos and an entourage.

So true.
