Eugenia Cooney - glamorizing anorexia?

Anonymous
My 7 year old daughter has wider legs than this girl.

A lot of you have asked how long someone can live like this. I was anorexic for more than 10 years and never got above 80 pounds (5'5"). I think some people are genetically predisposed to survive starvation for a long time (maybe something that was naturally selective during times of famine?) - that's the only explanation I have. I'm doing well now and happy - and I look at this young woman with compassion. Someone pointed out that people with anorexia tend to avoid pics and that was certainly true for me. The only images I had from that era, thank God, were my passports photos and driver's license.

This is a pic of her in 2011 when she was 15. She has been ill for a long time.

Her early instagram is a textbook of body dysmorphia and illness. Many of her comments are how she looks fat or gross or disgusting.

There is nothing glamorous about that. The poor thing is very sick. Sad.

This was her 7 years ago, with her brother. Still extremely thin, but less fragile looking than now. Her brother is morbidly obese (still is). There have to be some really bad private family dynamics, despite everyone being involved in her youtube/instagram career.

If you’re vomiting to lose weight, you will also have a bloated face. I feel very sorry for this girl. She is likely struggling with severe depression and will be dead of cardiac arrest within 5-10 years.

Anorexia shouldn't be taken down, or censored like some sort of taboo. I looked like her, worse actually, and this kind oh content, excuse my langyage, makes me feel like sh*t. We're not all naive cheerleader blondes; I have 3 Masters in engineering and have a gpa of 138. Of course, it's not healthy, but she isn't supporting it. You never know what's she struggling with behind closed doors, and at the end of the day, it's good to recognize that while eating disorders aren't jokes, they are mental illnesses just as valid and hard to overcome and alcoholism and depression. I know this youtuber is actually a really sweet girl. We are not problematic just by existing; we are good people overcoming bad struggles just like everyone else, and we aren't given thre respect of regular people.

The problem is she’s making a spectacle of herself. She’s glorifying her illness. And as someone who has struggled with eating disorders, I could absolutely see that how is pro-ana for many young women.

She looks like Giuliana Rancic.

What is a GPA of 138?

Perhaps IQ?

Having a wide social circle of engineers including my DH, no one has 3 engineering MS degrees, that seriously makes no sense unless, perhaps, you are say in your late 50s and did an initial MA out of college, then perhaps picked one up (say initially ME but then gravitated to an EE field) mid or early career and then finally did another in software engineering as that became the hotter commodity in the 3rd phase of one's career.

I was thinking the same. I have 2 undergrad eng degrees (double major) and a graduate degree. My fellow engineers often comment on it being overkill--usually engineers just roll through to a PhD or terminate. I've NEVER met anyone with 3 postgrad engineering degrees as it actually makes no sense at all.

Has she ever addressed her ED?

This is so sad and so scary that this girl is a walking corpse and gets so many "likes." I just reported her Instagram account. Let's see if Zuckerberg's cronies do anything. Doubtful since it brings him $$$.

This is very sad. Where are her parents and why is she not in a treatment program???

It won't. They did an online petition to have her removed from social media and had over half a millions signatures. The social media sites still wouldn't take down her pages or channels.

There's thin, but this is looking like a concentration camp prisoner thin. It boggles my mind how anyone think it's attractive to look like this. I'll stick with fit and womanly anytime.

I just reported her IG page.

Did they remove it?
