Eugenia Cooney - glamorizing anorexia?

Anonymous
If you don't know who she is, she's a popular Internet star - Youtube & Instagram, with hundreds of thousands of followers. She very clearly has an eating disorder.

What is the responsibility of Social Media sites and profiting off of someone with a fatally unhealthy image? Shut it down? Ignore and let her do her thing?

I never heard of her until now. She certainly looks like she has anorexia. She may not be aware and is happy to be so thin. Her mother needs to help her. Very sad.

Never heard of her. Is it a teen thing?

I think she's an adult - a young adult, but still 18+. In cameos, her mother is overweight/obese. Not to speculate if it's related, but it's obvious.

But it begs the question, if obese people can become social media "stars," why not anorexic ones? I don't know the answer, but it's still so sad to see a young woman like this.

She is terrifying.

As a PP said, anorexia is just as sad as obesity and just as likely to kill you sooner or later.

Yet people in this country:
1. Say we shouldn't fat-shame.
2. Thin-shame all the time.
3. Strive to diet.
4. Eat their face off.

I honestly love the Kardashians for glorifying full figures.

Oh my God. She looks so sick.

No one is "thin-shaming." This poor child is ill.

Never heard of her.

She obviously has a problem. Hopefully she's getting help.

Seriously, OP. I have never heard of her. If you're truly concerned that she's promoting an unhealthy image, then why post links to her? I have no idea if she is anorexic or not, however it's a disease and diagnosing her online will do nothing for her.

+1. This feels almost like someone who knows her trying to start some horrible thread to bully her with

No, she's a popular "Emo/Goth" internet star. You may not know who she is, but I'm certain a lot of your kids have - it's generation thing with social media personalities.

Wow. I think social media sites have to let this thing happen though.
Makes me want to watch even more closely what kinds of things my kids are checking out though - at least want to be in the conversation with them about the things they come across....
