Eugenia Cooney - glamorizing anorexia?

But it begs the question, if obese people can become social media "stars," why not anorexic ones? I don't know the answer, but it's still so sad to see a young woman like this.

Anorexia will kill a person at such a younger age than obesity.

I'll admit that it is a good thing. They eat well - based on what I've seen on their show - and they exercise. That's all there is to it.

Wow I am just old enough that social media wasn't a big deal when I was a teen and I'm so glad (as someone who went through a phase where I was dangerously thin and fascinated by emo/goth culture).

Her face looks healthy. Her body is skeletal.

I'm surprised she can hold her giant head up. Lollipop look.

I'm struggling with anorexia, and I know this is probably a well-intentioned thread about protecting your children, but it's definitely the wrong message. Anorexia shouldn't be taken down, or censored like some sort of taboo. I looked like her, worse actually, and this kind oh content, excuse my langyage, makes me feel like sh*t. We're not all naive cheerleader blondes; I have 3 Masters in engineering and have a gpa of 138. Of course, it's not healthy, but she isn't supporting it. You never know what's she struggling with behind closed doors, and at the end of the day, it's good to recognize that while eating disorders aren't jokes, they are mental illnesses just as valid and hard to overcome and alcoholism and depression. I know this youtuber is actually a really sweet girl. We are not problematic just by existing; we are good people overcoming bad struggles just like everyone else, and we aren't given thre respect of regular people.

It's disgusting to think she does not care enough about her 'fans' and people looking up to her to set things straight. That this isn't something to look up to or strive for. By not addressing the OBVIOUS fact that she is not well, she is setting a terrible example. She should be ashamed of the message she's putting out there. Addressing that this is not healthy even slightly is better than ignoring the problem all together. She isnt just terrible looking, she's ju an ignorant person.

that is not what her channel is about, and she has no obligation to respond to or talk about things that are intrusive or make her uncomfortable.

Having a wide social circle of engineers including my DH, no one has 3 engineering MS degrees, that seriously makes no sense unless, perhaps, you are say in your late 50s and did an initial MA out of college, then perhaps picked one up (say initially ME but then gravitated to an EE field) mid or early career and then finally did another in software engineering as that became the hotter commodity in the 3rd phase of one's career.

Yes, she does it for that cute pseudo-goth manga look, except she's not Asian so her bones stick out. Poor thing.

WTF? "Except for she's not Asian so her bones stick out?"

The girl is knocking on death's door - being Asian or goth has nothing to do with it. She's increased in popularity in the past year, and whether or not kids watch her channel - the Youtube "community" talks about each other, and make the rounds on each other's social media - ie, here recently with Shane Dawson. https://www.instagram.com/p/BKWv4dbAjWj/?taken-by=eugeniacooney

She makes videos with her mom sometimes - but the girl has gotten WAY worse in the past year - also as her popularity has increased. It's disturbing.

Truly sad and disturbing. She needs help. Not more popularity.

It's pretty obvious this PP is lying. Both lying about your credentials and anorexia have roots in insecurity. It's super sad.
