Prospective Ludlow Taylor Parent

I am not sure how Brent would be able to absorb a cohort of rising First Graders from Peabody. Brent already has three First Grade classrooms, three Second Grade classrooms and will be adding a third classroom for Third Grade next year. With the simultaneous addition of a third K classroom, this required difficult choices, including reducing the size of tbr ECE program and repurposing the classroom used for Mandarin Chinese instruction. In other words, Brent is already out of space with the prospect of adding additional classrooms over the next couple of years for Fourth and Fifth Grades.

If Peabody fed to Brent, maybe Brent could use Peabody for ps3-k.

I like PP's idea.

Yes, this sounds like a good idea!

I was at the Spring Jubilee (the day after the shooting of all days) and I saw many (both Caucasian and AA) parents doing a lot of work for the event.

Me thinks, if L-T were just a drive by for ECE for these parents, why bother? Me thinks, they are planning to stay for at least a few years.

Also, although the location of the shooting was very unfortunate, it has really nothing to do with L-T.
IF you are IB for L-T, you already live in the 'transitioning' area where the shooting occurred (+/- a few blocks), going to SWS vs L_T is not going to change your crime risk very much at all.

One more thing: I just met the scary principal and she was quite nice to me.

Update on Morris Place shooting/across street from Ludlow Taylor

I found this article useful. Apparently, the recent homicide was the result of an interpersonal dispute that became tragic. There isn't any evidence of active gang involvement or local DC crews involved (as I've now confirmed with multiple police officers).

This doesn't change the fact that my neighborhood (I live on Morris Place) is transitional, with real, documented crime risk (as referenced by prior MPD reports). Details of the crime do matter, to give context and help better understand the types of risk, relative likelihood of specific kinds of events, and reasonable precautions. I completely respect how others have less tolerance for risk then we do and might not understand why anyone would even want to be thinking about this kind of thing where they live. But everyone has a different perspective on risk and related choices.

While this neighborhood is not for everyone, we love it here, for many reasons and with eyes wide open.

But, seriously, it's 2014. Isn't it time for LT to have some sort of online presence? I understand that could have no correlation to the quality of education, but if I encountered someone who simply chose not to have a cellphone, I would find that odd.

I've sent one simple email twice to the nice principal and no response yet. Hopefully she's both nice and responsive .....

The trial I was on two years ago revolved around Morris Place. We found the guy guilty.

I've found DC schools to be pretty hit or miss regarding their websites. In a lot of cases, I think they depend on the PTA or individual parents to create & maintain their websites. If you have parents with not only the skills but the time, then it's a simple matter; if you don't, it's a lot harder. If funds are tight, neither the PTA nor the schools is gonna want to spend money on hiring someone to build the website.

There was a community meeting at the school last night where you could have asked her questions directly. It was posted on this topic thread. Think she might be a bit busy to be able to answer everyone's individual questions. The forum was well done and helped answer a lot of questions and concerns.
