Prospective Ludlow Taylor Parent

I enrolled our child yesterday (procrastinator!) but we are still on the fence about taking the spot come fall. (Our child won't turn 3 until the end of summer so he will be very young and we have not made much progress on potty training.)

I hope there will be some play dates for L-T like some of the other Hill ESs.

You're not looking hard enough.. Georgetown has more than it's share of creepy deadbeats

So we should just all pretend that H Street is just honky dory? Wait until the new streetcar is a snazzy version of the X2.

I thought the street car would be similar to the Circulator bus. The Circulator is primarily ridden by tourists and professionals. The price is higher and it's not budget transportation. However, now that I see that they are considering connecting it to National Harbor (via Anacostia) I am SO confused. It just doesn't make sense. But I would be very surprised if the street car mimicked the X2 bus - I would see it as an escape from people on the X2 looking to get away from unsavory characters, actually.

^ when I say "unsavory characters" I'm obviously talking about the drunk people, smokers and violent folks looking for a fight. I feel that I have to clarify on this board.

Sounds like you need a full-time cop as an extra cost on society for putting a flop-house next to a school. Either that or issue firearms to the teachers!

The Circulator is ridden primarily by tourists and professions by design. How many tourists and professions will be needing to travel by streetcar from Union Station to Oklahoma Avenue, or possibly someday to tbe Benning Road or Minnesota Avenue Metro Stations? It never made sense to me.

I look forward to the day streetcars are battling Virginia commuters and delivery trucks for primacy on K Street as they make their way back and forth to Georgetown. I can't envision a streetcar one running from EotR being welcomed by Georgetown residents any better than a proposed station on the Blue/Orange lines back in the day.

Georgetown wants more foot traffic these days, they would love it. They need it actually.

It's nice to have to look hard. H street does not offer that option.

It always amuses me when people who are bitter about being priced out of the hill come on DCUM to vent their frustration.

I think that is what you wish were happening.

+1

I love living on the Hill. I had no idea there were people (although this has to be one person with a grudge) who felt that way. Perhaps, they were priced out of the Hill or had a bad experience in the area once.

I worked in Georgetown years ago and was mugged. I also mistakenly entered an illegal massage place that was for prostitution (I know, I was clueless but didn't stay learn more). I still have an ill feeling about the area when I visit.

Nothing has ever happened to me or anyone I know on the Hill. I guess it's all your experience....

I worry about my friends in California whenever I hear about a earthquake and can't imagine why they would choose to live there. They say the same about me living in DC. They're afraid of terrorist attacks and convinced that I should have escape routes planned and gas masks handy. It also reminds me of two students I met who were visiting the mid-west (where I used to live) from Japan and they were paranoid that they would be shot (and asked me a million questions about their safety). It's all about your past experience and perception.

The negative poster(s) commenting about the Hill obviously have a VERY different perspective than I do. I feel MOST comfortable on the Hill. Everyone looks out for each other on the Hill. I've never been part of any community so tight and caring.

Why do the posters feel a need to bad mouth a community where lots of families are moving in everyday and folks are genuinely happy?

Anyone's guess. What's yours?
